  TrouserPress.com :: Paul Carrack
In one of rock's circuitous success stories, Paul Carrack was the lead-singing keyboardist in Ace, a pub-rock outfit before "pub-rock" became a rock press sub-genre — strictly background music for soaking up suds.
Carrack next found employment with Mike and the Mechanics (Mike Rutherford's extra-Genesis sideline), and wound up singing strangely anonymous-sounding lead on that group's big hit, "Silent Running." This exposure got Carrack a 1987 touring-band job with Roger Waters after Pink Floyd's split.
Carrack has since returned to the Squeeze fold a time or three.

  Paul Carrack - Concert Vault - Where Live Music Lives
Carrack has the rare distinction (or blessing, depending on how you view it) of being one of those rock stars who is famous but faceless.
Carrack seems a little uncomfortable being in the solo spotlight, though he is clearly best when he can concentrate on his sideman performance at the keyboard.
Carrack plays the most radio friendly tracks from his solo albums, including 1989’s Top 20 hit “Don’t Shed A Tear,” “Fire With Fire” and “Button Off My Shirt.” He also played enough of his non-solo hits to make this a completely enjoyable, hit-packed concert.

 Carrack-class light cruiser - Wookieepedia, the Star Wars Wiki
Two weapon configurations were known for this class: one with ten heavy turbolasers, twenty laser cannons designed to defend against starfighters and missiles, and five tractor beam projectors, and an alternative version which replaced the flak lasers with ion cannons.
Reinforced bulkheads and a compartmentalized design made Carracks tough for their size, and these were combined with independent life-support systems in different sections of the hull to lessen the dangers of hull breaches.
Luckily for the Oswaft, the Imperial plot was thwarted with the arrival of Lando Calrissian and Vuffi Raa.

 POP: CARRACK AND LOWE - New York Times
PAUL CARRACK'S performance Wednesday at the Ritz with Nick Lowe and his band, Noise to Go, offered a skillful blend of mid-60's-style ''blue-eyed soul''' and 70's English pub rock.
Carrack, who scored two hits with outside groups, ''How Long (Has This Been Going On)'' with Ace and last year's ''Tempted'' with Squeeze, before embarking on a solo album career, is a better-than average ''blue-eyed soul'' stylist who makes no attempt to conceal his reverence for the 60's hits of the Temptations and Smokey Robinson.
Carrack's first single, ''I Need You,'' is a particularly witty pop hybrid, with a melody that's strongly reminiscent of ''My Girl'' and lyrics that include Cole Porter-like double entendres.

 THE CARRACK
The carrack (called "nao", for "ship", by the Portuguese) was the definitive beast of burden of the Age of Exploration; Magellan, for example, had an all-carrack fleet with which he set to circumnavigate the globe in 1519.
The rigging underwent an extensive expansion: The mainsail grew in size and there was often an additional sheet line connected to the middle of the sail foot in addition to the lower corners, clews.
The large superstructures of the carracks, however, affected the use of rigging and thus their sailing characteristics: the towering castles made the ship top-heavy and more prone to topple in strong winds -- what actually happened to Mary Rose in 1545, when burdened with excess load -- that limited the actually usable sail area.
