Congratulations to James Kennedy of 165 Saint John’s Park, Waterford City who at the tender age of seven years and two months became one of the youngest people ever to make a winter ascent of Ireland’s highest mountain, the notorious Carrauntuohill (serrated peak) on Sunday 20th November 2005.
To make things even better Clare O’Leary, the first Irish woman to climb Everest was also present when Pat Falvey presented a certificate to James, signed by Pat, Clare and Johnny Walker, in recognition of his achievement.
To make a winter ascent of Carrauntuohill by this route for a seven year old is truly an amazing achievement by any standards and it is an experience that Johnny Walker says he will treasure for a long time to come.
