Carrickmore is situated on the verge of the Omagh District Council area.
Carrickmore holds the annual Tyrone County Commemoration of the 1916 Easter Rising and a remembrance ceremony for all Republicans killed in the northern Irish conflict since 1969.
Carrickmore is classified as a small village or hamlet by the NI Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) (ie with a population between 500 and 1,000).

The town, and particularly the club, is referred to colloquially as "Carmen", a name derived from the Irish "An Tearman" meaning a haven or a sanctuary, and refers to the sixth century Columban monastic settlement that was located in the vicinity of the present parish church.
As one approaches Carrickmore it is easy to see how the name was a derived; the town was built on top of a large rocky outcrop and enjoys a vantage point over the Camowen valley, from the Sperrins to Fermanagh.
Carrickmore is an area rich in Irish culture, tradition and sport and has a proud record of producing some of the finest sportsmen and women, scholars, poets, singers and dancers in the county.

These are heady times for the Carrickmore club, and the future as well as the present looks rosy for them, as they regain the title of kingpins of Tyrone club football.

Carrickmore's grip on the O'Neill Cup remained a tight one at Pomeroy on Sunday night as the reigning champions clinically disposed of Edendork's challenge to clinch their place in the 2002 Tyrone Senior Football Championship semi-finals.
Carrickmore looked as if they had a big challenge on their hands but they soon settled into the game and opened their account when Conor Gormley, Plunkett McCallan, Fergal Gormley, Seamus McCallan, Paul Hughes, Dermot Loughran and Mark Donnelly played their part to win a free kick.
It brought the Carrickmore scoring to an impressive climax and all that remained was for Edendork to make the scoreline a little more respectable in the dying stages.

Carrickmore and Edendork were involved in the first draw of the 2003 Coca-Cola Senior Football Championship when they finished level in a tense encounter at Pomeroy.
Carrickmore's Championship hopes were hanging by a thread but their legendary character got them out of bother, substitute Peter Loughran smashing the ball to the Edendork net following a goalmouth scramble.

The Carrickmore girls enjoyed the early running in the tie, racing into a 1-5 to 0-0 lead in an opening quarter, which also saw Aodh Ruadh's influential defender Lisa Mc Alliskey sent to the sin bin as Carrickmore's forward unit ran riot with the wind at their backs, Dearbhla Mc Callan the goalscorer.
Carrickmore though responded in the best possible fashion as the impressive Claire Gallagher once again pointed to bring her tally to five points, and the ace attacker also was unfortunate to see her fine effort on goal rebound back off the post to safety.
Carrickmore though were not going to accept defeat, and they sprung into life to ensure a rousing finale to the game.

In the late 1970's, Carrickmore became one of an elite number of clubs to win the O'Neill cup three years in a row.
