One of the most iconic Carry On stars was Barbara Windsor, although she appeared in only ten of the films.

Carry on Cleo is a film bristling with comic assurance and a timely deflation of the mega-production Cleopatra with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
At the heart of Cleo is the stunning and delightfully dotty performance of Amanda Barrie as the seductive Queen of the Nile, cleverly constructed as a naive and childish figure.
Cleo is quite clearly a landmark in the history of Carry On, with a perfect cast of expert players, a well rounded, do anything for a giggle screenplay, and sets that the usual budget could never have afforded.

Carry On Cleo is the tenth film in the Carry On film series.
Kenneth Williams' line as Caesar on his being stabbed by the conspirators is frequently voted among the funniest lines in British comedy.
However, it was not actually an original Carry On joke at all - scriptwriter Talbot Rothwell requested the use of the gag from its creators, Frank Muir and Denis Norden, who had written it for BBC radio comedy show Take It From Here.

The Carry On films were a long-running series of British low-budget comedy films made at Pinewood Studios near Windsor.
The series began with Carry On Sergeant in 1958, about a bunch of recruits on National Service and was sufficiently successful that others followed.
The period in which the films were made co-incided with the so-called sexual revolution and the later films were considerably more relaxed towards sexual jokes and situations than the earlier ones.

 The World War 2 Store: Carry On Cleo/Carry On Jack
Carry on Cleo is meant to be a cheap take on Cleopatra, and it's all very funny for about the first thirty minutes, but then rapidly becomes a bore, with the same old jokes recycles over and over again.
Carry On Cleo and Amanda Barrie are so great that this release gets five stars even though Carry On Jack should have long ago been buried in an unmarked grave.
Carry On Cleo is consistently amusing with Kenneth Williams and Sid James putting in one of their finest roles in the series.

Carry On Cleo is far and away the best Carry On film ever.
Carry On Jack (1963) was the series first historical epics and is easily the most forgetable.

The first half of the play is largely devoid of melancholia and runs like a Carry On film in itself, driven along nicely by Sid's libido as the craggy-faced cackler tries to get off with a succession of women including Barbara Windsor, his torch-carrying dresser and busty starlet Imogen Hassall.
Kenneth Williams, all whining, sneering lips and flared nostrils is, of course, caustic from the minute he sets a Roman-sandalled foot inside the ever-decaying trailer, which could be a metaphor for the production values and the health of its occupant.
Watching Carry On films is like being covered in a cosy blanket of comic nostalgia, the bad old days when sex was deliciously wicked and only vulgar men were ever in pursuit of their wicked way.

This is the Carry On that divides fans and is either a last gasp of greatness or evidence of the series' decline depending on your fancy.

This is a absolutley essential Carry On and is a great one to induct somebody who has never heard of this long running and triumphantly succesful British comedy series.
The Carry on team were probably at their zenith with words games at the time of production.

Carry on CLeo sounds like just the sort of thing for a bit of relaxation.
Carry On England had Patrick Mower in the lead role andwas so hacked about in editing to avoid losing its certificate that allowed middle-teen kids to see it at the cinema, that it made little sense.
: : the last 'proper' Carry On was Carry On Emmanuelle which didn't work because it was a skit on a sex-comedy that was not in itself serious - the writers didn't appreciate that you cannot easily parody light sex-comedy and it came across as simply another poor sex-comedy.

From the Day Peter Roger thought of making ‘Carry On Sergent’ he was onto a winning formula.
Norman Hudis did screenplay on the first 6 ‘Carry On's’ then Talbot Rothwell went on to take over with the next 20 films.
Sadly we have lost many of the stars from the Carry On's as they have passed away but shall never be forgot as these films continue to attract new generations.

Part of the British "Carry On..." series of comedy films dating from the 1950s through the peak in the 60s and into the 70s.
It's a kind of a 'sex comedy' with a PG certificate (that is, the women are usually very sexy and beautiful and the jokes are a bit rude/double entendres).
In 'Cleo', loosely based on the story of 'Cleopatra', Wanda has a minor role and in this scene she plays a noblewoman bidding for a male slave at an auction.

The earlier films (scripted by Norman Hudis) take on British institutions and are burlesques of the decline of the British Empire (excepting "Carry On Cabby," a dreadful foray into situation comedy).
At their best, the Carry On films in the collection are excruciatingly funny.
And speaking of excruciating, the collection kicks off with a deadly feature clip film from 1977, "That's Carry On," with the film clips lumbering toward you like icebergs while Kenneth Williams and Barbara Windsor flutter around a projection booth like doomed moths.

In an attempt to lure audiences away from their TVs and back into the cinemas, the film industry provided a host of spectacular epics taken from mythology, history and the Bible.
The Carry On team are in fine fettle in this version of the classic tale with Mark Antony (Sid James) chasing after the scatty Cleopatra (Amanda Barrie) and trying to look after his boss Julius Caesar (Kenneth Williams).
Kenneth plays the role with his usual panache coming up with some of his best lines in the whole series, such as ‘Infamy, Infamy, they’ve all got it in for me!’ and his first line in the film ‘Oh, I do feel queer’.

Did you know, no you probably didn't, that in 1987 when I was living in South London, at 6:00 PM each weeknight, there was a Carry On film on BBC 2.
Then you had the hilarious ITV compilation series Carry on Laughing, which featured Babs baps every other week.
I once worked in a building (Ministry of Health??) for an ill fated temp job which had only carry on pictures (from the medical ones natch) on the walls.

 Carry On Soundtracks - Music & Dialogue from the Carry On movies
Of course it wouldn't be be a proper Carry On product if it didn't feature the hilarious/bad innuendo-laced dialogue from the movies - so along with the music we get some class lines from the movies ("young chickens may be soft and tender, but the older birds have a more on them" etc).
Carry On Teacher, Carry On Constable and Carry On Regardless all used the same title music - hence theres only 29 tracks on the CDs - not 31.
Fans will be pleased to hear that the CD contains the great disco theme song to Carry On Emmannuelle, "Love Crazy" by Masterplan which was released as a 45 single at the time the film came out.
