The purpose of the carry input on the full-adder is to allow multiple full-adders to be chained together with the carry output of one adder connected to the carry input of the next most significant adder.
These block based adders include the carry bypass adder which will determine P and G values for each block rather than each bit, and the carry select adder which pre-generates sum and carry values for either possible carry input to the block.
The layout of a ripple carry adder is simple, which allows for fast design time; however, the ripple carry adder is relatively slow, since each full adder must wait for the carry bit to be calculated from the previous full adder.

Carry signals when a Minus module has an underflow, and it makes the value of the underflow - the absolute value of theMinus module's subtract operation - available to be used as the value itself or as a True/False flag that can trigger switches or other processes when there is a subtraction underflow.
This is because the output will be at 0 when there is no underflow at the Minus module, and it will be the carry value when there is. Since SoftStep logic reads 0 as False and any non zero as True, the carry output works either way.

There is only really one difference between the shift and rotate instructions: rotate cycles the bits around going out one side and coming in the other, while shift rotates the bits out one side or the other leaving the space where the rotated bits where either unchanged or zeroed.
