In early 1885 the mint was closed and remained closed for 3 and 1/2 years until late 1889, hence the lowest mintage Carson City Morgan dollars are the 1885 and the 1889.
Most of the 1885 mintage was stored and never circulated while most of the 1889 mintage was gobbled up by the people of the area after the 3 and 1/2 year absence of a Silver Dollar.
