Carson County was named for Samuel P. Carson, the first secretary of state of the Republic of Texas.
In 1990 the population of the county was to be 6,576.

Carson County ranges from 3,200 to 3,500 feet in elevation, averages 20.92 inches of rain per year, and varies in temperature from a minimum average of 21° F in January to a maximum average of 93° in July.
By 1890 Carson County had a rail network, and its first town, soon known simply as Panhandle; that year, the United States census listed twenty-eight ranches or farms in the area, and 356 people were living in the county, all of them white and twenty-nine of them foreign-born.
Cropland harvested in the county dropped from 220,734 acres in 1929 to 180,971 in 1940; the number of farms dropped during the same period from 542 to 493.

Samuel Carson was educated in the "old Field school" until age nineteen, when his brother, Joseph McDowell Carson, began teaching him grammar and directing a course of reading to prepare him for a political career.
Carson was defeated in 1833 because he had supported John C. Calhoun's nullification meeting in spite of his constituents' disapproval.
Carson died on November 2, 1838, at Hot Springs and was buried there in the United States government cemetery.

In the early Nineties the telephone came and in Carson County some twelve or fifteen country homes were connected by a neighborhood phone line, run from house to house on the barbed wire fence.
In a more remote and simpler way, is it too much to say that the little band of home seekers who came to Carson County in 1887 and 1888, brought with them the potency and force that was to ripen into a splendid community and spread its influences to the whole Panhandle Country.
The present population of Carson County is wide awake, progressive, up-to-date and are generally direct descendants of the first settlers who came to open the way, and lead to the establishment of higher agencies of civilization, such as schools, churches and roads.

Because these diseases are not reportable in Texas, the Texas Department of Health (TDH) was not able to determine the number of people who have these diseases; however, to try to answer this question, the TDH reviewed death certificates from this area to determine how many people died from each of the diseases.
The Pantex Plant boundaries are U.S. 60 to the south, Texas Farm-to-Market (FM) Road 293 to the north, FM 683 to the west, and FM 2373 to the east.(1) Figure 1 shows the location of the Pantex Plant.
