Carter County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri.
The county was organized in 1859, and is named for Zimri A. Carter, a settler who came to Missouri from South Carolina in 1812.
In the county the population was spread out with 25.10% under the age of 18, 8.00% from 18 to 24, 25.90% from 25 to 44, 25.00% from 45 to 64, and 15.90% who were 65 years of age or older.

Ned Cornelius Pyeatt was born in 1874 in Missouri to James Glass Pyatt and Rachel Miller.
Since their license was acquired in Carter County, it makes me think that at least one of them had family in Reynolds County who hosted the wedding celebration.

In the northeast part of Carter Township, Peter Brame, the informant's grandfather, who came from North Carolina, was the first pioneer to settle near the head-waters of Carter Creek.
He did not settle in Carter County but he was here and recorded that he found "an underground river" near the south bank of Current River, that was flowing from beneath a huge mountain.
It was the first mill established in the county for the Missouri Lumber and Mining Co. Named for their president, J. White.

The PORTERS arrived in Carter County in late 1913 or late 1914 where PORTER purchased 10 acres of land near Hunter, MO. Effie PORTER died January 8, 1917 and is buried at Hunter, MO. Jefferson City states there is no death record on file there.
I have census from Reynolds County for 1900.
I am looking for information on Helen and James COX who were in Carter Co. in 1873.  She was the daughter of Albert BROOKS and signed a document then pertaining to land he had sold in Michigan.
