Carthay is a residential district in the Mid-City West region of Los Angeles, California.
The Carthay Circle was one of the most famous "picture palaces" of Hollywood's "Golden Age." It hosted the official premiere of Gone with the Wind and Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, among other films.
The Carthay Circle Theater was also showcased for the world premier of the movie "Marie Antoinette", which starred Tyrone Power among others.

The Carthay Circle was a legit theater for several years in the 50's, operated by Henry Duffy who had a legit theater chain on the West Coast in the 20's and 30's.
The Carthay Circle was the most spectacular movie palace in the entire area and rivalled the Grauman's Chinese Theater for cinema history and movie premieres, even in the 1950s.
The Carthay Circle can be seen in the 1967 movie "Caprice" with Doris Day when she is spying on Michael J. Pollard and Irene Tsu in the balcony of the theatre.
