The Changing of the Guard is a parade representing the changing of the guards posted at Rideau Hall, the official residence of the Governor General of Canada.
The parade returns to Cartier Square where the colours are marched off, and the parade is dismissed and transported back to Carleton University.
Generally the sentries at Rideau Hall are adjacent to the main entrance, but construction in the summer of 2006 has forced these sentries to be relocated slightly down the main drive, just before the fountain at the end of the driveway, roughly thirty meters from where they normally are.

The duties executed by the Guards Regiments while on duty at Rideau Hall is a result of their role as Household Troops to Her Majesty, and Her representative in Canada.
The Guardsmen felt badly because it is a point of pride to stick it out on sentry or on the Hill, and they felt so this year especially because the Mounties removed their tunics in the heat.
These included the Change of Command and presentation of new Colours to the GGFG in 1984 which was reviewed by His Excellency, the Governor General, and the presentation of new Colours by HM The Queen to the CGG in 1992 and the GGFG in 1997.

This new unit was formed by grouping the 1st Volunteer Militia Rifle Company of Ottawa together with a number of other companies located in Fitzroy, Vernon, Metcalfe, Aylwin, Eardley, and Wakefield.
The Regiment was accorded the honour of the Freedom of the City by his Worship Don Reid, Mayor of Ottawa on 24 May 1969, in a ceremony held outside the old city hall.

Scott's appointment in February of 1872 to the post of Chief Architect may certainly have been aided by the fact that Sir George Etienne Cartier was at one time the Grand Trunk Railways long-time chief counsel.
As Chief Architect Scott eventually assumed responsibility for the design, construction, maintenance and repair of all federal buildings across Canada from 1871 to 1881, including the original post office at Elgin and Sparks (1875-1938), the Cartier Square Drill Hall (1879) and the Langevin Block where the Prime Minister's offices are located.
Records indicate that after Scott's death in 1895, his widow Mary maintained her residence here until 1906 and the property was then sold to the noted Canadian journalist and essayist, William Dawson LeSueur for $7,150.

Filip Konowal is also commemorated by his unit with a large trilingual (French-Ukrainian-English) plaque and display on the inside wall of Cartier Square Drill Hall.
In addition, a copy of his VC can be seen on the basement hall wall of the Ukrainian Catholic Church on Green Valley Cres. The hall also has a Roll of Honour commemorating parishioners who died fighting for Canada.
