Cartmel college has an excellent JCR and College Officer's who are second to none in a College system which has many excellent officers.
Phil is the College Dean which means that with the Assistant Deans Chris, Sean, Steven and Vincenzo he is responsible for upholding the discipline of the College.
We have a large number of bed/study rooms in Cartmel College and so, if for any reason, you are not happy in the room or area where you have been allocated to, please do not hesitate to contact me as soon as possible and I will endeavour to sort something out for you.

Cartmel College, Lancaster University, was originally sited in the north end of the university campus, and extended in 1969.
In 2004, the whole college was moved to a new development at the south west of the campus, Alexandra Park.
The college is now based around a refurbished Barker House Farm, and is one of only two Lancaster colleges to boast entirely on-suite accommodation.

Cartmel recently completed a dietary intervention trial aimed at developing and testing a behavioral intervention to increase fruit and vegetable intake in patients treated curatively for early stage cancers of the oral cavity, pharynx and larynx who are at high risk for developing a second cancer.
She is also collaborating on an etiologic study of uterine cancer, a study of fat intake and biomarkers of risk for breast cancer, a validation study of a novel method for measuring carotenoids in vivo, and an intervention study to reduce exposure to isocyanates in autobody shops.

With the relocation of two Colleges to the South West building site, and other relocations dodging demolition work on the main campus, we're about to implement several new and changed names.
Cartmel College is moving to Alexandra Park, centred on Barkers House Farm.
I hope any parents of prospective students, perhaps reading this, don't get the impression their sons and daughters are to be messed around - this arrangement genuinely minimises disruption and decreases the risk of anyone occupying substandard rooms.

The conference centre is situated between Bowland and Lonsdale colleges (numbers 4 and 33 on the campus map, main entrance approached from Lonsdale Avenue).
The standard room delegates are allocated to Torver block which is one of the blocks in Furness College, access is gained from the door overlooking the raised lawn.
En-suite delegates are allocated to the John Creed blocks in Cartmel College.

A mobile phone was stolen from an unlocked room in Cartmel College and a wallet from an unlocked room in Grizedale College.
Although there have been a higher than usual number of thefts at 11, most were involving low value of property and all were preventable if the owner had remembered to lock their doors or not leave clothing lying around with valuables.

I studied sociology at Exeter University - taught by my colleague John Hughes among others - and then moved to the University of Cambridge to undertake doctoral research in political sociology - where another colleague, John Urry, was a fellow research student.
After completing a study of British political culture and writing a book on the sociological theory of reform and revolution - the late '60s were heady days, I became a Research Fellow in Social and Political Sciences at Downing College, Cambridge.
It was during my five years as a Research Fellow that I first became interested in state theory and also helped to introduce Alan Warde, also a long-standing faculty member at Lancaster, to the delights of sociology.
