  Cartoon Network Studios - Biocrawler
Cartoon Network Studios, formerly known as Hanna-Barbera Cartoons, Inc. is a cartoon animation studio founded by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera that has produced television cartoons for over forty years.
Hanna-Barbera was the first animation studio to successfully produce animated cartoons especially for television; until then, cartoons on television consisted primarily of rebroadcasts of theatrical cartoons.
Despite being produced at Warner Bros. Television Animation (not Cartoon Network Studios), the copyright message at the end of each episode states the author as "Hanna-Barbera Cartoons, Inc." This is the only recent series in which Hanna-Barbera's name is mentioned as the author (as Cartoon Network's series are copyrighted by the channel itself).

MGM Studio Cartoons - Don Markstein's Toonopedia
The studio's first shot at animation was to approach Disney himself, hoping to distribute his cartoons the way Paramount distributed Max Fleischer's.
The resulting cartoons, starring such characters as Flip the Frog and Willie Whopper, didn't make much of a hit with audiences; and Iwerks was back at Disney within a couple of years.
The studio's first Oscar nominee, Harman's Peace on Earth, perhaps the first cartoon from a major studio with a completely serious theme, was released December 9 of that year; and its first winner (in fact the first non-Disney winner of all), Ising's The Milky Way, came out on June 22, 1940.

 "Toon In" by Justin Peters
Unsurprisingly, most of the shows that came from the networks were putrescent abortions like "Fish Police" or "Capitol Critters," as the usual network hacks, sensing a trend while failing to understand it, tried to graft typical sitcom structures on this "new" medium.
But for every network failure, there was a less-heralded cable show like "Daria," the angsty adventures of a too-smart girl at odds with the world, or the oft-misunderstood "Beavis and Butthead," a wicked satire of the stupidity of modern culture which many viewers mistakenly took to be just another stupid cartoon.
Network executives hoped these old cartoons would appeal not only to kids, but also to their nostalgic baby- boomer parents who had grown up watching "Yogi Bear" and "Scooby Doo." To fill his airwaves 24-7, Turner also needed to produce his own programming.

 Hanna-Barbera Studio - Don Markstein's Toonopedia
MGM later got back into theatrical cartoons, at least briefly, but by that time, the Hanna-Barbera Studio was far too successful, producing cartoons for television, for its founders to consider going back.
Also, animation sequences, such as walk cycles, were transferred from one cartoon to the next or even between one series and another.
With Cartoon Network ensuring their continued airing — along with a new channel, Boomerang, which premiered in April, 2000, programmed entirely with their 1958-76 output — it seems likely those cartoons will have fans in many generations to come.
