 Wombania's Cartoon Corner
Comic strips may not be the most important art form ever created, and they certainly aren't the most respected, but they are one of the more influential.
Some comic strips are timeless and retain their impact generations after their creation, while others strongly reflect the times in which they were created and provide a historical perspective of their day that is every bit as revealing as news articles or textbooks.
Although comic strips are a visual art form, they are closer to that of a novel in the sense that they are usually the vision of a single person.

Your first step would be to determine which papers the strips were syndicated in.
Consult your local library as to the availability of copies of that paper for a given year (more likely than not, if it is available its on microfilm), if they don't have it they might be able to direct you to another local library that does.
If the strip doesn't run in your local "major" paper, see if your library has "Editor and Publisher", they have some information in regards to syndication, though I can't guarantee that they'll list the publications you're seeking.
