Another difference between a national monument and national park is the amount of diversity in what is being protected; national monuments aim to preserve at least one unique resource but do not have the amount of diversity of a national park (which are supposed to protect a host of unique features).
A U.S. National Monument is a protected area of the United States that is similar to a national park (specifically a U.S. National Park) except that the President of the United States can quickly declare an area of the United States to be a national monument without Congressional approval.

Casa Grande Ruins National Monument contains an imposing 4-storey building dating from the late Hohokam period, probably 14th century and contemporary with other preserved ruins in Arizona such as the Tonto and Montezuma Castle Monuments.
It is believed that the Casa Grande was a kind of astronomical observatory as the four walls face the points of the compass, and some of the windows are aligned to the positions of the sun and moon at specific times.
A door at the back of the centre leads to the Casa Grande itself, at the middle of a rectangular area that used to be a walled compound containing several other smaller buildings.
