 RELEASE: UW-Madison chemist elected ACS president
Casey, who joined ACS as an undergraduate student in 1962, says the idea of becoming president of the organization hadn't occurred to him until last year, when someone asked him to run.
Casey says that his election depended on the network of UW-Madison graduate students and faculty who helped to share his message with ACS members at other institutions.
Casey has served as chair of different sections and divisions within ACS during his membership and also was chair of the chemistry section at the National Academy Sciences; he is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

The Columbia County Board Supervisor for District 1, the city of Wisconsin Dells, Craig Casey has decided against running for the seat in the upcoming April election.
Casey, who served about 14 months after being appointed to the seat, told the Events he is not running because of business restrictions, as the board often meets for several hours during the day.

Cindy Casey, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources urban forestry coordinator, said mulching must be done properly, and in moderation to avoid damaging trees.
Casey said urban landscapes are typically harsh environments with poor soil conditions, little organic matter, and big fluctuations in temperature and moisture - all "unfriendly" growing situations for trees.
