The district court thus concluded that the plaintiff's gender was a bona fide occupational qualification and that Casey County had no other reasonable alternative but to transfer the plaintiff, an action that was "reasonably necessary to the normal operation of the jail." JA 21.
The first, transporting female prisoners to neighboring counties in the middle of the night, placed financial strains on the Jail when it was forced to pay overtime and caused fatigue to the deputy jailer overseeing the transfer, who then had to work the next day.

It was standing room only at the Casey County Hospital board meeting last week as 10 residents from the local neighborhood packed the tiny meeting room to voice their concerns about a helipad that is part of the new hospital construction.
Tim Goodlett, principal at Casey County High, was chosen nearly two weeks ago to take the helm at the new school, with Douglas Elementary's principal Judy Phillips in the assistant principal position.

The county, Kentucky's forty-fourth, was carved out of Green County in 1801 and named for Gen. John Adair.
Although the county lay along the Cumberland and Great Lakes Trail, the lack of modern transportation hindered its development as late as 1910, when travelers rode by stagecoach to Campbellsville to reach the Louisville and Nashville Railroad.
Adair County's population was 13,078 in 1888 and climbed to a high of 18,566 in 1940; it was 13,037 in 1970; 15,232 in 1980; and 15,360 in 1990.
