ET Casey Mears and the #25 National Guard Chevrolet team chose to gamble on fuel mileage in the closing laps of the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway and came away with his first NEXTEL Cup Series victory.
Mears will be one of at least six Chevrolets with the new engine, which was in Scott Wimmer's Richard Childress Racing car that failed to qualify at Atlanta Motor Speedway last month.
