Caspar David Friedrich - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Caspar David Friedrich (September 5, 1774 – May 7, 1840) was a 19th century German romantic painter, considered by many critics to be one of the finest representatives of the movement.
Born in Greifswald, a small town in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (at the time Swedish territory, now Germany) Friedrich was the son of a candle-maker, from whom he received a religious education which would influence his work.
Another possible influence on Friedrich's work was the witnessing of the premature death of one of his brothers while ice skating in the frozen Baltic Sea.

 Caspar Brotzmann
Caspar Brotzmann doesn't take kindly to being called a guitar player ("It's just a tool," he says), but his attack on the instrument - explosive, obstreperous, large scale, textural, timbral - asserts the material facts of string-pickup-amplifier more bluntly than anyone else currently involved in rock.
Caspar Brotzmann was born in 1962, and brought up in Kreuzberg, an area of West Berlin by the Wall that was colonized by rebels and squatters; the bohemian left galvanized by the struggles of 1968 (though currently - especially with reunification - it is succumbing to respectability and bourgeois order).
Caspar is currently signed to the Blast First label; unsurprisingly, the label's owner, Paul Smith, applauds the guitarist's 'primitivism'.

The mechanics of protein movements are currently being explored in my laboratory by structural studies on insulin and other protein crystals under a variety of conditions and on tobacco mosaic virus and polymorphic assemblies of its coat protein.
The Caspar and Klug quasi-equivalence theory of icosahedral virus construction was based on the recognition that structural proteins are adaptable molecules that can self-assemble by bonding together in different ways within a highly ordered structure.
Studies on the DNA containing tumor viruses have demonstrated that the molecular adaptability goes beyond the modest conformational adjustments anticipated in the quasi-equivalence theory; nevertheless essential bonding specificity is conserved in the contacts that tie the coat protein molecules together.

 Grains of Sand
Iranian liberals today do not deny that the liberties appropriate to a liberal society can be derived from a theory or stated in a system of principles, but their view of a liberal society is related to a view of humanity and truth as inherently unfinished, incomplete, and self-transforming.
But now that they have gone they must be replaced by something better or we are exposed to the abuses of an unchecked executive inflamed by tabloid populism...
Among the reasons this may be a better choice than some others (assuming that such a thing, bound up with ideas of progressive nationalism, is a good idea at all) are those explored in Peter Linebaugh's remarkable 2003 essay The Secret History of the Magna Carta.
