The Caspian Snowcock, Tetraogallus caspius, is a snowcock in the pheasant family Phasianidae of the order Galliformes, gallinaceous birds.
The breast is pale grey, the throat and a white patch on the side of the neck are white, and the nape is dark grey.
It differs from Caucasian Snowcock in that it does not have the drop in pitch at the end of the song shown by that species.

Day 1 — To observ Caspian Snowcock and others, it is reached to Arpalik Plateau which has 2400 m altitude and birds are observed for 2-3 hours just after a short voyage by tractor about 90 min.
When finishing the observations in this plateau, everbody goes to Cimbar valley and also observes the birds in this valley, after all observations finished, everbody comes to Safak Pension by tractors or jeeps and gets their breakfasts, and then resting follows the breakfast.

The Irano-Anatolian Hotspot is confined to the western part of the Irano-Turanian Floristic Region that also extends eastwards to include the arid lands bordering the Caspian Sea, the Hindu Kush, and the spurs of the western Himalaya (Takhtajan 1986).

The Safak pension (hsafak@e-kolay.net) is still the best place to stay and have the excursion to the Aladag NP for Caspian Snowcock and other high-altitude birds.
However, for 2 nights plus meals and the excursion (in two parts, before and after breakfast), we paid 200 euro for the two of us, which is quite a sum for Turkey.
Hasan is still using his tractor to get over the NP's muddy ground to the high mountain saddle from where you can see the snowcocks (best with scope, glad we brought that).

In the morning, in a given area that we'll visit, there's a cacophony of sound with Snowcocks calling loudly from the ridges and some Caucasian Black Grouse in the area calling as well.
In the mountains, the Lammergeier and Golden Eagle are the two most commonly observed raptors.

Cávit drove down at 06:00h and we decided to wait and walk down later that morning, although Cávit told us our changes had got very ill. Irritated by the fact that we didn't observe any Caspian Snowcocks, we walked as far as possible up the mountains by ourselves.
Although the Caspian Snowcocks proved hard to find, almost all other birds were fairy easily found, as was Wild Goat Capra aegagrus.
After observing the Snowcocks, we walked down the gorge described in Gosney as site 2.

We are unsure if this is the place mentioned in the gen since the gen does not mention the obvious pinnacle and more importantly says that there is a nomad camp further up the gorge (which was completely snow-covered) and the track seemed to terminate at the plateau.
Other birds of note were Mountain Chiffchaff 2, Chukar 2, Marsh Warbler 3, and perhaps most surprisingly a quail that we flushed from the track almost up at the flcock site.
The other locality was on the west side of Lake Van (small pools along the road between Tatvan and Ahlat: Caspian Tern 1, Whiskered Tern 14, Squacco Heron 3).
