Laurent Cassegrain was a Catholic priest born in the region of Chartres around 1629 and died at Chaudon (Eure-et-Loir) on August 31, 1693.
Cassegrain Telescope: First developed in 1672, this type of reflector is a combination of a prime concave and a secondary convex mirror, both aligned axially.
In a Cassegrain telescope, there is a hole in the primary mirror; light from the primary mirror is reflected by the secondary mirror through the hole in the primary to reach the eyepiece, placed behind the telescope.

Large Prism Mounting Minimizing Rotation in Cassegrain Instruments
ESI is a multipurpose instrument currently being delivered by the Instrument Development Laboratory of Lick Observatory for use at the Cassegrain focus of the Keck II telescope.
The different modes are selected as follows; Light from the Cassegrain image (Figure 1) at the slit plane is collimated by an off-axis segment of an ellipsoid.
Next, the spectrograph was mounted in a cassegrain simulator, which allowed us to tilt it, thereby inducing the different gravity orientations the spectrograph would see at Keck.

In fact, in many photographic applications, the eyepiece lens is eliminated and an image sensor (film or CCD) is placed at the focal point instead.
My version of this design differs from a typical Cassegrain that one might purchase from a commercial builder of telescopes.
In a commercial Cassegrain design (called a "Schmidt-Cassegrain"), a spherical primary mirror is used instead of parabolic, because spherical mirrors are much easier to figure, and the glass plate to the right is shaped to create the optical behavior that would have been obtained with a parabolic mirror.

A Newtonian reflector telescope bounces the collected light from it's main mirror out the side of the tube via the secondary mirror to the awaiting eyepiece.
The light travels up the tube once, whereas the Cassegrain, the light bounces back from the secondary mirror towards the main mirror and through a hole in it's center to the eyepiece behind it.

Definition: cassegrain antenna   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Cassegrain antenna: An antenna in which the feed radiator is mounted at or near the surface of a concave main reflector and is aimed at a convex secondary reflector slightly inside the focus of the main reflector.
Note 1: Energy from the feed unit illuminates the secondary reflector, which reflects it back to the main reflector, which then forms the desired forward beam.
Note 2: The Cassegrain antenna design is adapted from optical telescope technology and allows the feed radiator to be more easily supported.

I own a telescope right now its a Tasco 60mm 700mm department store(But the store i got it from is great its called sports authority and it doesent sell crap) Refractor.
In the near future when i learn the night sky better and have no problem finding constalations i would like to get a Cassegrain telescope becaouse its small all porpuse and has the best of both worlds(Reflector and Refractor) but mainly because it is small and compact.
Eventually I plan to purchase a 10" or 12" Cassegrain with astrophotography and research in mind.
