Detailed Review [Cast - Overall View] - ProgressoR   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
In 1993, at last, Cast completed the work at the creation of their own studio (and 'label') of the same name and starting from 1994 they have released a series of albums, most of which have already become real classics for the future.
Although the musicianship of each separate Cast member then wasn't as masterly as in the middle of the 1990s, their excellent joint performance and brilliant arrangements make "Third Call" one of the five or six Cast best albums in their current discography (to me, this is the fifth best one).
Cast didn't release their regular new album in 1998 for the first time since 1993 which was a year of the beginning of the band's feverish activity (for details click here: "Top").

Playbill News: Ken Mandelbaum's AISLE VIEW: Cast Album Wish-List
Ever since labels began to reissue cast recordings on CD, most people I know have thrown their hats in the air, looked forward with almost terrifying excitement to each re-release, and eagerly plunked down their money to buy the CD versions of cast albums they have had on their shelves in LP form for years.
This is the Columbia cast album that substitutes Eileen Rodgers for the show's Abbe Lane, whose label would not release her for the recording.
The United Artists cast album deserves to be reissued simply because this is John Kander's first Broadway score (the show also became Hal Prince's first Broadway directorial contribution when he took over on the road from Word Baker).

The Hand - Cast Album Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
It's perhaps this that makes Cast sound a little bit tired, to be truthful they're still sounding like the 1996 Britpop scene when they first made their debut.
This similarity between tracks is the main flaw of the album, although Magic Hour is a peaceful song that stands out from the album and is bound to be a future single.
Cast need to find this 'new direction' they keep telling us they're going in with the release of every album.

The Musical World of Rocky Horror - Reviews by Kevin Boycik
His performance on this album is energetic, tough, and (in my opinion) better than his performances on the RHS Original London Cast album and TRHPS Original Soundtrack.
I would assume that one reason this album has never been re-issued (and I honestly doubt that it ever will be) is because it is true that Lou Adler probably cringes in disgust at how badly this album rips off the Original Roxy Cast album.
The album does however boast a divine performance by Rayner Bourton as Rocky Horror (he was the very first Rocky Horror in the Original London Cast but his performance on this album is even better).

Original Cast Album - Company   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
While a proposed series of original cast recording sessions for documentary filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker (Don't Look Back) never materialized, Original Cast Album: Company survives as the first and only entry, and it was fortuitous that its subject was the 1970 musical Company.
All the other cast members had been dismissed, so it was just Stritch, the orchestra, and the recording and creative teams.
It is interesting to see the mechanics involved, naturally, but what sticks with you is the determination of these tired actors (they recorded on the Sunday after opening night, their day off) to get a permanent record of this brilliant, groundbreaking musical.

Their debut album, Asleep at the Back was definately an album to play late at night when you want to get your emotion on.
Some people say this album is more uplifting than the last, and, while that is true to an extent, the constant darkness of the first album is still here which is what I love.

The extent of Idle's contribution is not detailed in the notes, but one finds oneself wishing he had been more involved, as the story presented on this album could have well used more of the twisted nature the coauthor of Monty Python & the Holy Grail could have brought to it.
For whatever reason, this original cast album is most thoroughly unconvincing.
