The Castell line of pencils was introduced in 1906 as A.W. Faber's response to the success of the Koh-I-Noor super-premium pencils from Austrian rival, LandC Hardtmuth.
Incidentally, both the names Koh-I-Noor and Castell which began as brands for particular lines of pencils would become so recognizable that they would eventually be incorporated into the names of their respective manufacturers.
This German made Castell dates just after World War I. Faber had established a factory in New York City in 1861 to produce pencils for the American market while avoiding import duties, but the high-grade pencils, like the Castell, were still made in Nurnberg, Germany.

German Wine Society About German Wine Classification news
After nearly a decade of preparation, members passed a resolution on wine classification for Germany, thus reaching a milestone in the association's history...and a milestone for wine lovers: at long last they can enjoy "grand cru" wines from Germany.
It enables Germany's top-quality wine producers to reposition their products on the international wine market, and to finally do so on an equal footing with the "grand crus" of other wine-growing countries.
The resolution was also important because Germany is unique among the wine-growing countries of the world in that the entire area permitted for viticulture potentially qualifies as being suitable for the production of Qualitätswein.
