Teaching Heritage - Expressing national goals
Castlecrag was explained and promoted in every manner possible: Walter Burley Griffin wrote numerous articles for architectural and trade journals, and both Walter and Marion frequently gave lectures, illustrated by lantern slides.
The GSDA had large advertisements in the newspapers and prepared two substantial brochures: Castlecrag Album (1925) and Castlecrag Homes (1928) – each with numerous plans and photos of the development and its houses, including interiors, and views of the reserves and Middle Harbour; and journalists wrote articles – mostly eulogistic.
In keeping with the idea of a Castle (Castlecrag) the roads and public reserves on that promontory have been given appropriate names – such as Sortie Port and the Battlement in the cases of highways, and the Turret and Keep in the case of reserves.

 Castlecrag History
Walter Burley Griffin and his wife, Marion Mahony Griffin, are celebrated in Castlecrag for their contribution to the suburb's development and to its community spirit.
Most of the blocks in the Castlecrag Estate and the neighbouring Haven Estate had been sold by 1928, but the GSDA was not successful in inducing owners to use Griffin's architectural services, to observe his covenants or to build.
Their principles were subordinating houses to the landscape, preserving access to and views of native bushland and being sensitive to natural features such as escarpments, creeks, rocky outcrops and established trees.

 Willoughby Paddocks Rezoning - 06/04/2000 - PRIV
For the benefit of members who are unfamiliar with that parcel of land, Willoughby paddocks is an area on the former Warringah Freeway corridor which was to stretch from where the Gore Hill Expressway begins to the Castlecrag escarpment.
In other words, it is the right-hand arc heading north towards the northern beaches, which was 20 years ago to have crossed from Castlecrag to Seaforth, which would have put a bridge there.
Therefore there is now a corridor of land, which is divided roughly into three major parcels, including waterfront land and escarpment land in Castlecrag, stretching back to a central section known as Willoughby paddocks.

The trail then turns west and climbs more steeply across the south slope of Castlecrag, finally dropping a little to the saddle between Castlecrag and Mt. Frink.
(At this point a short side trail is marked that leads to the top of Castlecrag.) After dropping down the south side of the saddle the trail climbs up the east ridge to the top of Mount Frink — some fairly steep sections up boulder areas here.
