Castleisland Community Centre is situated at Tonbwee, Castleisland and serves as the indoor sports facility for the town of Castleisland and its surrounding districts.
There is a strong sporting tradition in the town and the Centre, with its facilities for basketball, indoor soccer, badminton, squash, racquetball and handball has played no small part in the respective clubs success at local, regional and national level.
The first step to the future of the Centre was 42 miles long as 26 brave peopple from the town walked from Dingle to Castleisland on the 28th September 2001, beginning at 7 a.m.

Castleisland retained the Moynihan Cup after a high quality game and it was their superior firepower up front that proved decisive as Kenmare had almost as much possession.
Castleisland dominated the second quarter with defenders Joseph Moran, Padraig Reidy and Michael Coakley keeping their opponents under wraps and their forwards, led by Lyons and Joe Kearney, plundered a succession of points as Castleisland led 1-8 to 1- 3 at half time.
Castleisland shut out the game in the third quarter as their outstanding defence refused to wilt and Joseph Moran, Padraig Reidy and, in particular, Scartaglin's Michael Coakley from centre back were outstanding as their forwards got plenty ball.

The people in Castleisland are very interested in the project and 1.25 m of share capital was raised in the autumn of 1999.
Castleisland Community College won the award for the best overall school at the Kerry Vocational School cross country championships which took place in Castleisland.

GRA national executive member for Kerry, Dave McMahon, said the gardai at a station in the former credit union building were being forced to work in "completely unacceptable conditions" during their 18-hour station day.
Their poor accommodation in Castleisland is affecting the policing of the town (population: 3,132) which is troubled by a core group of "20 young thugs", he said.
The GRA is to invite Minister for Justice Michael McDowell to visit the garda station when he attends the association's conference in Tralee at the end of April.

This Monument to a TD is the farthest away, 3.5 miles from the layby and 5.5 from Castleisland.
This memorial is on the Tralee side of Castleisland, about a mile from the centre of the town, on the left-hand side of the road as you travel towards Tralee.
This memorial is at the beginning of the Castleisland to Limerick Road, less than half a mile from the turn off in the town.

identified in the house close to Castleisland in July 2003, it is the third highest radon concentration ever found in a house in Ireland.
The background to this survey was the discovery of an extremely high radon level in a home in Castleisland in July 2003.
Following this, the RPII wrote to all of the approximately 2,500 households in the four national grid squares adjacent to the town of Castleisland advising them to have radon measurements carried out in their homes.

 RTE News - Harney rules out laws to combat radon
The RPII undertook the survey of the Castleisland area last year after tests showed one house had a radon level around 250 times above what is deemed to be healthy.
One woman living in the house died from lung cancer, while a man is currently being treated for the illness.
Of results from 377 Castleisland homes, 52 were found to have radon concentrations above recommended levels; six had five times the recommended level; while one had the third highest concentration ever found in Ireland.

It is situated on the small river Clydagh, and on the confines of the counties of Limerick and Cork and comprises 18,013 statute acres, as applotted under the tithe act, and valued at £2180 per annum.
