Castlevania (video game) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It is the first game in the Castlevania franchise, but the seventh chronological installment of the franchise, based on Koji Igarashi's ideal timeline.
The game has been adapted or remade for a number of different platforms, including the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (as Super Castlevania IV), the MSX (as Vampire Killer), and the Sharp X68000 (which was later ported to the PlayStation and released as Castlevania Chronicles), as well an arcade game remake called Haunted Castle.
Castlevania is a typical platform game of the 8-bit era: the game is comprised of six levels, which are played through in a strictly linear progression.

Castlevania - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Castlevania series is one of Konami's most famous franchises, and has seen titles released for the Nintendo Entertainment System, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, the Sega Genesis, the PC Engine, the Sony PlayStation, the Sega Saturn, the Nintendo 64, the PlayStation 2 and the Microsoft Xbox video game consoles.
These are typical platform games in which the player takes the role of a whip-wielding warrior from the Belmont family as he ventures inside Castlevania (Count Dracula's castle) and fights a variety of supernatural beasts on his way to defeat Dracula.
Subsequent Castlevania games have followed this new style, with the replacement of the secondary weapons by complex magic systems in which spell components are collected from enemies or found in the castle.

As the game progresses, you'll dive under the castle, over the castle, and all of the sorts of places you expect in the series.
Like the older games, you have considerably less control over your whip and your jumps, which may be realistic, but it's a pain in a platformer.
For the most part, the early Castlevania games were very difficult until you learned their tricks, and Castlevania: Chronicles is no exception.

The Castlevania franchise has a lot of history, both in the confines of the game and as a series.
The first foray into the third dimension with Castlevania 64 was a far from stellar experience for any gamer, and I'll admit that I was one who purchased the game only to be severely disappointed.
If someone had walked into the room with no knowledge of this game, chances are high that they'd be hard pressed to pin down that it's a Castlevania game, unless of course they walked in during the scene early in the game where you fight Trevor Belmont.

Although Castlevania: Legends was retroactively removed from the Japanese Castlevania timeline by current director Koji Igarashi, Konami USA has not reflected this, and it remained canon according to Konami USA in a Konami Timeline printed in Nintendo Power around the release of the Sorrow series.
Alucard first makes his appearance in Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow as Genya Arikado to Soma Cruz at the beginning of the game, as he enters during the game's opening scenes, attempting to protect him from Celia, the leader of the cult devoted to recreating the Dark Lord.

Now, no DS game would be complete without some functionality for its touchscreen and although Dawn of Sorrow does incorporate it into some of the play aspects, for the most part they seem a bit out of place and awkward to use when controlling Soma with the directional pad and buttons.
Though the game does have a fairly nice anime-styled intro movie, all of the other cut scenes are done via the game's normal 2D graphics engine.
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow is certainly a must-have title for the DS.

Castlevania for the GBA is practically identical to the original NES game as you, along with your trusty whip, infiltrate Dracula's lair for a showdown with the count himself after you take on a horde of beasts, zombies, and other nasties.
All these years later, the original Castlevania still holds up as a more than solid side-scrolling platformer, although it's not as good or memorable as later installments in the series, such as the PS1 title Symphony of the Night, the various GBA games, and the current, excellent DS game.

Additionally, some games made in the last 5 years are still making money for operators and are thus not yet affordable to the typical collector.
