Castlevania for DS will continue the storyline that first emerged in the critically acclaimed Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow.
In the Game Boy Advance Castlevania games, Konami took the same Metroid-esque approach that Symphony did, but two out of the three games - Circle of the Moon and Harmony of Dissonance - were somewhat mediocre.
Castlevania DS is a direct sequel to Aria of Sorrow, but in every way that counts – gameplay, graphics, music, the overall quality of the experience – it appears to be an improvement on what was already an amazing, addictive game.

With all the graphics techniques poured into the game, we're just a little upset that the music took a back seat...though the end credits scroll does feature a nicely mixed version of the game's first background music piece.
Outstanding continuation of the Castlevania gameplay...the boss battles have been tamed down a lot from last year's game, but otherwise the game's fun as all heck.

There are five themed areas of a huge castle to explore, each with dozens of rooms to wander around in and their own imaginative bosses to beat.
Though academic now, the game would have benefited visually if it had been developed for Xbox or GameCube, as the PlayStation 2's limited texture memory is noticeable on occasions.

The plotline of the game was quite good and with many new games you loose your way in the story and dont know what to do next, but this game held it together quite well and i knew what to do next most of the time.
It's Konami's second attempt at a 3D Castlevania game, and with a little help from Capcom's Devil May Cry (the similarities are very obvious) this game is a resounding success.

It was a game called Vampire Killer and was released only in Japan for the MSX Computer System, and while the graphics were basically the same as the first Castlevania game, the gameplay was much less linear.
Despite that, when Konami released the actual first Castlevania game (which was called Akujajo Dracula in Japan), it was what we all remember it as: a linear side scrolling platformer where you had a whip and special weapons.

The game series has always been renown for its incredible design, hidden secrets, outstanding visuals and top-quality gameplay, so it was with much anticipation that I loaded this all-new 32-bit version.
The graphics are initially similar-looking to SNES and Genesis incarnations of the game, the character animation isn't particularly smooth and 3D is resigned to limited background effects and the odd special effect.

Castlevania with lasers." Well, you CAN get a laser (or a photon cannon, more accurately,) but the vast majority of the game stays strictly to the series' roots, and offers a vast amount of innovation not only to 2D gameplay, but to the Castlevania storyline as a whole.
Add to the fact that this game has hidden final bosses, hidden areas, a special arena mode which earns you rare and awesome weapons, a hidden playable character, and a mode which allows you to restart the game with all your items intact makes this game a gem and a real joy to play.
Castlevania has never seemed so populated with enemies, and the decent amount of actual platforming, such as a certain huge room in the Underground Waterway, is a blessing when I compare it to HoD's insulting overuse of completely straight, nearly empty corridors and unpleasant, redundant vertical corridors.

Chronicles is a game that the kids would christen ‘old skool'—the graphics, the gameplay mechanics, and just about everything else to do with the game harkens back to another era…an era that many of us look back on with nostalgia.
Castlevania Chronicles features the US debut of Akumajo Dracula, one of two Castlevania games that had never seen a stateside release (the other being the much lauded Dracula X: The Rondo of Blood).
The most interesting of the bunch is the interview with the game's producer, wherein he discusses the series in general and hints that Rondo of Blood is the next game they'd like to release.

Due to the enduring and challenging gameplay, Castlevania is certainly worthy of a purchase since it's doubtful an average gamer will complete it in a day or two.
The 8-bit classic has aged gracefully, and while its graphics don't compare to the more modern Castlevania games, the gameplay is still very solid, and is something fans will definitely want to sink their teeth into.

Virtually every 2D title has been a great success, but the previous two attempts at making a Castlevania game (both on the Nintendo 64) were considered failures, so a lot of people had their eyes on this title from the moment it was announced.
You can, however, play the hard mode, which adds a ton of challenge to the game, and though I prefer games of this sort not to be any harder, there are those of you who may enjoy the increased difficulty.
The game takes many aspects from the original Castlevania titles and revamps them, and though it doesn't have the RPG aspects that I've grown so fond of, it does live up to the name Castlevania.
