Castlevania timeline - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Castlevania timeline was revised in 2002 by current series producer Koji Igarashi.
Castlevania, along with the soul of its master, was sealed in an eclipse that occurred at the time of his death.
2036: (The events of Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow) A year after Soma Cruz was awakened to his powers and realized that he was the reincarnation of Dracula, a cult that sought the power of the count returned, this time building their own castle strikingly similar to the count's former ancestral home of Castlevania.

Like the original Castlevania, the game was really tough, although it had a better balance thanks to the addition of the password system and the 3 new characters.
Castlevania was a step forward in the saga, and some might even claim that it set the path for the excellent Symphony of the Night.
Castlevania is an ancient series with a long history, and so is its story, which you can read all about in our accompanying History in Castlevania article.

Dracula - The Black Vault Encyclopedia Project   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-02)
The Castlevania Dracula draws some history from both, but instead of preying on maidens this one threatens whole realms with his armies at the least, and at worst is presented as the very embodiment of evil.
However, Konami retconned Castlevania Legends from the official Castlevania timeline because the game plot was inconsistent with the plot of Castlevania:SoTN and Castlevania 3 which says Dracula only became evil after his wife was killed by humans shortly before the events of Castelvania 3.
Also of note, Castlevania: Curse of Darkness verifies that prior to the events of Castlevania 3, Dracula had not held a grudge against humans, as explained during Hector's confrontation with Dracula at the end of the game.

Gamerdad - Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance
In the Castlevania timeline, it's not been more than fifty years after Simon Belmont successfully banished Dracula and destroyed the vampire''s castle lair.
Unoriginal story aside, Castlevania: Harmony Of Dissonance is yet another finely crafted Castlevania adventure, based on the game mechanics laid down by Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night, a Playstation classic and a true evolution of the Castlevania game series.
Castlevania games play as a "Best Of Halloween", with Dracula almost always starring as the lead villain.

When I started the Castlevania fanfiction, all I had to work with was Symphony of the Night, still the crux-point of my Obsession, and a basic working knowledge of the earlier games left over from my childhood.
Since the games themselves are so equivocal, my information about the timeline mostly comes from The Castlevania Dungeon, and in places even they admit that it's a mess.

A.D. he first 16-bit SNES CastleVania, Super CastleVania IV could be largely considered a remake of the original CastleVania in everything but the storyline (though the Japanese version remakes even that), taking full advantage of Mode-7 graphics and superior sound quality.
A.D. he only CastleVania game to be released for Sega (outside of the Japan-only Sega Saturn version of Symphony of the Night and the aborted Sega Dreamcast Resurrection), Bloodlines offered a fast-paced epic quest that could very well be considered the best in the series so far.
To many, this game is considered "The CastleVania 64 that should have been in the first place, but wasn’t." Many of the levels remain the same, though with minute differences and additional levels altogether.

Aria of Sorrow is the first Castlevania set in the future, but don't get your hopes up of something refreshing and original.
Combine the solid gameplay mechanics of Castlevania, and add the soul system, and what you have is the best playing Castlevania in quite a long time.
The tried-and-true gameplay formula that Castlevania is known for makes another triumphant return, and the addition of the soul system is absolute brilliance and equally addictive.

As one of the biggest PlayStation 2 releases of the fall, Castlevania: Lament of Innocence has a lot to live up to, but the chances are, there's very little to worry about.
Lament of Innocence takes the series back to its roots - as in, the very beginning of the Castlevania timeline - the 11th century, to be exact.
As a huge Castlevania fan who really didn't want the series to leave 2D, I was a tad skeptical about Lament of InnocenceĀ…until I saw it in action.

Castlevania, which often goes by the name Demon Castle Dracula in Japan, is a highly successful franchise of side-scrolling console games that goes back to the Famicom and the original Nintendo.
The plots of the various games are supposed to fit into the timeline of Bram Stoker's Dracula, and follow the exploits of the Belmont family through the ages in defeating the vampire Dracula after each of his many resurrections.
The Castlevania project is still in its very early stages.

Koji Igarashi, the frontman for the Castlevania series, declared "Castlevania: Legends" to be noncanonical and had it removed from the official Castlevania timeline.
In this interview, Koji Igarashi says "Back in Castlevania III, in the beginning of the game, Trevor Belmont is the destined vampire hunter who has been instructed by the Greek Orthodox church to destroy Dracula." So, there's IGA's view on the matter, if you care.
"Castlevania: Resurrection" was to be a launch title for the Sega Dreamcast console in North America on September 9, 1999.

In its most recent issue, Electronic Gaming Monthly has obtained some initial info on the new Castlevania title that was announced for the Playstation 2 back in February.
As far as the Castlevania timeline goes, this will place the newest game as a prequel to the rest of the series.
So the challenge for us is to make Castlevania fun as a true 3D game." However, to allay the fears of fans, Igarashi went on to say that the game will attempt to learn from the Castlevania titles released on the Nintendo 64 and avoid many of the mistakes those games made.

News - New Castlevania DS? // DS /// Eurogamer
Nintendo Power magazine is hinting at a new Castlevania game for the DS.

The whips and moon stuff seems quite obvious, and of course Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow certainly was one of 2005's best DS titles, despite the depth of competition, so it wouldn't be too surprising to hear about another one.

If you are one of the people who didn’t like the direction that Lament of Innocence took the Castlevania series in, well…you aren’t alone.
Lament of Innocence shifted the series into 3D, and in doing so jettisoned a lot of the traits that people had come to associate with the series—the adventuring elements had practically disappeared, and players had to learn how to cope with a fixed camera.
This entry in the series introduces a new protagonist, Hector, who was once a follower of Dracula before growing disillusioned and leaving for a life of seclusion.

 Castlevania. Arthurian Timeline
In addition to historical information about the fifth century, we have included, in our Arthurian chronology, information about the fascinating and imaginative legends of Arthur that have developed in the vast body of literature that has been written through the years.
So then, this timeline is an original effort, which is based on the available sources for the period.
We have attempted, so far as we are able, to weigh those sources and to assign probable values to them, and, in the end, to put them together into a plausible chronology.

Review - Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow // DS /// Eurogamer
Not that we're complaining - Dawn of Sorrow is one of the best Castlevania games we can remember, and although its concessions to the DS's unique feature-set are of varying quality and import, it's still a game that you definitely need to own if you have more than a passing interest in action-adventure.
Although, you might want to clarify whether it's action-adventure you like, first, because Castlevania's biggest trick was and is its unique transcendence of gaming instincts.
This is fine at first, but it gets a bit awkward and it feels bolted on - although we certainly appreciated the sight of it when we'd been busily thwacking a particular enemy with no joy for some time.

Not A True Ending: The History of Castlevania   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-02)
Castlevania as a whole has been around for almost twenty years now, and even though the piles of titles have plenty of variety, they revolve around a central theme: hero needs to destroy vampire (usually Dracula) to prevent the downfall of mankind.
For example, Super Castlevania IV and the Haunted Castle arcade game are both the same tale as the first Castlevania, and both Dracula X titles are considered to be the same.
Sadly, it\'s far inferior to the Duo version, which is hailed as the greatest \"traditional\" Castlevania game, as later titles featured gameplay that was closer to that of the Metroid series.

Flame Bait Discussion: Castlevania: Lament of Innocence
Not that continuity bothered the Castlevania series much before (Konami's official timeline put Sonia Belmont, the first to fight Dracula, at 1450 AD, while Vlad the Impaler was still very much alive).
It was just called Castlevania, probably because in Japan the main series is called Demon Castle Dracula and since there's no Dracula in this game, let alone his castle, they needed a title change and used the American name.
I thought this might be interesting, setting up for a different vampire villain that the Castlevania games could use to allow for more games prior to the 15th century (because if you've ever looked at the Castlevania timeline it's damn crowded).
