Castor (α Gem / α Geminorum / Alpha Geminorum) is the second brightest star in the constellation Gemini and one of the brightest stars in the nighttime sky.
Astronomically, Castor was discovered to be a visual binary in 1719, with the magnitude of its components being 2.8 and 2.0.
Castor has a faint companion separated from it by about 72" but having the same parallax and proper motion; this companion is also a spectroscopic binary with a period slightly less than 1 day.

Alpha Geminorum (Castor) is, at magnitude 1.59 the 23rd brightest star in the sky, and is properly referred to as being of the second magnitude as astronomers consider a first magnitude to be from 0.5 to +1.5 - Castor barely falls short.
Castor is also not the brightest star in Gemini; that honor goes to neighboring Pollux.

The Castor 120 is a medium-size, high-performance solid propellant motor developed in 1989 to fill the gap between motors in the 30,000-pound range and large motors like the Space Shuttle reusable solid rocket motors and the Titan IV solid rocket boosters.
The first flight of a Castor 120 occurred on August 22, 1997 with the launch of Lockheed Martin's LMLV-1 (Athena) as the first-stage motor.
The Castor 120's low cost was achieved through advanced design features such as a reduced part count, a reduction in cycle time and a modified propellant grain machining process.
