They didn't vie for the title of "favorite band" or anything, but I found their self-titled album to be enjoyable pop punk, back when I was still defending the genre that has since become an earsore for modern rock fans everywhere.
The album lacked hooks, a sin for an album from a band that is so dependent on how good their hooks are.
Catalyst isn't a bad album; it certainly has much more life to it than Sticks and Stones did, but ultimately, after a few listens, I didn't find myself having any real desire to ever hear most of the songs on here ever again.

 IGN: Catalyst Review
Catalyst breaks no new ground for the pop-punk movement--it's still all unrequited love, all the time.
Catalyst regrettably boasts "No News Is Good News," a song of such saccharine-sweet pop stylings that one is forced to wonder why New Found Glory elects to toss it upon myriad compilations in favor of its more accomplished experiments.
It is the lone extreme-nadir of the album, and only because the world has been saturated with its blistering whine.

The band's newest album, Catalyst (May 2004), which was shipped at Gold status, is the Frosted Shredded Wheat of music: it's got so many sugary pop hooks that your kids will never suspect that there's some real pop artistry going on here.
Catalyst is utterly saturated with pop-punk gems that, even after just one listen, stick in your brain like a commercial jingle.
While their just-shy-of-platinum release Sticks and Stones (2002) was an album that those of us over 25 had to listen to in secret, Catalyst can be enjoyed in broad daylight.

The album was released in 1967 while he was signed with Phillips Records.

In the end, they didn't really tailor the album to the film, but the results, says Smith, have that same synchronicity anyway.
