Catch Me If You Can - A Hollywood Jesus Movie Review
So, if you're planning to pick up some tips from this highly detailed manifesto on paperhanging, be warned: this master has already foiled you.
Catch Me If You Can is a movie that on its surface explores the potential of one person to change and excel from being a criminal to being a contributor to society.
If looking for a story with many redemptive lessons as well as the illustrations on the importance of seeing potential and good in people, even those often perceived as bad, this is it.

It maybe could've used some tightening, but Catch Me If You Can is still the most purely fun Steven Spielberg film since his incredible decade-long streak as a master entertainer (from, say, 1975 to 1985, when he started yearning to sit at the grown-up table with The Color Purple).
If you plan on seeing both Gangs of New York and Catch Me If You Can this season, do yourself a favor and take in Gangs first; then settle in for Catch Me and rediscover Leonardo DiCaprio the actor.
Catch Me If You Can is Spielberg's most colorful film in years -- certainly not the monochromatic blue of Minority Report -- and it's shot with soft filters and relaxed compositions that recall the movies of the period (the mid- to late-'60s).

Catch Me If You Can, Auto Focus, Far From Heaven and the Art of Retro Title Sequences
Catch Me If You Can showcases the jet-setting new prosperity of the mid-late 1960s, at the same time revisiting the caper movie so popular at that time.
As in Catch Me If You Can, and many title sequences of the late 1950s and 1960s (the first decade of widescreen cinema) the frame is emphatically a two-dimensional space, to be geometrically divided up and sectioned off, a flat canvas that attempts no illusion of scenic depth.
Whether films such as Catch Me If You Can and Auto Focus herald a new cycle of revisionist credit sequences remains to be seen, but there is no doubt that they represent inspiring additions to the varied and exciting developments that have occurred in film titling of recent years.

SPLICEDwire | "Catch Me If You Can" review (2002) Steven Spielberg, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks
Steven Spielberg's best movie in at least a decade, "Catch Me If You Can" is a capricious, invigorating, infectiously jaunty caper about one of the most extraordinary con men in United States history.
Very much in the spirit of films like "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," "Catch Me" is just as vivid in its characters' emotional depth as it is in depicting Frank's funny, seat-of-his-pants survival in his doctor and lawyer identities through gleaning what information he can from episodes of "Dr. Kildare" and "Perry Mason."
Hanks finds humanity and sublime humor in the dead-seriousness of Hanratty's determined pursuit, and DiCaprio and Walken share a strong bond as a father and son whose fates seem to be forcing them in opposite directions.

 Catch Me If You Can
Catch Me If You Can is perhaps the first of his pictures that survives a deeper analysis.
The movie is not without its moments of ham-fisted manipulation (there remains whiffs of Spielberg's panic that no one notices he's being clever), but Catch Me If You Can is the sort of film rich with subtext and a healthy self-deprecation missing too long from, and admittedly believed to be beyond, Spielberg's canon and ability.
Catch Me If You Can's technical perfection is matched by a performance by DiCaprio that rekindles the actor's early, pre-Titanic (pre-Gangs of New York) buzz, as well as a turn by the always interesting Walken that captures the actor's warmth and autocratic air of melancholy.
