  Catch That Kid (2004): Reviews
Catch That Kid respects all of the requirements of the genre, and the heist itself is worthy of "Ocean's Eleven" (either one; take your pick).
While this Kid isn't up to "Spy Kids" standards, the good news is the film hews closer to the high-concept kids' movies of the 1980s than to all that Disney Channel goo that's been repackaged for the big screen lately.
The family at the center of "Catch" is likable and authentic, but the seriousness of their plight sits uneasily with the shoddily assembled escapist goof it generates.

"Catch That Kid" is an American adaptation of the 2002 Danish movie "Klatretosen," but whatever charm or appeal it might have had has been lost in translation.
With a cast, script and quality more befitting a Disney cable sitcom than a feature release, "Catch That Kid" is the story of a group of eighth-graders who carry out a bank robbery with a toddler in tow.
While some parents may be alarmed at this premise, the kids' illegal act is mitigated by a morality-based motive: They're stealing the money for a parent's potentially life-saving surgery.

Catch That Kid (2004) - Ninth Symphony Films Review
Put simply, Catch That Kid is a weak example of a children's story whose basic elements have been plucked from the world of adults and placed into a pre-teen arena.
And like minded films such as the "Spy Kids" and "Cody Banks" series have both brought impressive financial returns for their creators, but their success is something that Catch That Kid will probably never see.
The idea of a child taking huge chances to save his or her parent has been tackled by more than one filmmaker, and in the more successful ventures, the audience finds itself emotionally connected to the story and interested in whether the child will be successful.

TheMovieBoy Review - Catch That Kid (2004)
Based on the Norwegian family film, "Klatretosen," "Catch That Kid" wants to be a frothy, exciting action picture for kids, but it teaches some glaringly misguided lessons in the process.
The second effort in two weeks to fall into this genre, "Catch That Kid" holds notably more tension and imagination than "The Perfect Score," which dealt with high schoolers stealing the answers to the SAT exam.
"Catch That Kid" is a tolerable diversion, occasionally even involving, but it too often falls into the trap of so many other family pictures by alternately pandering and condescending to its pint-sized target audience.

 CATCH THAT KID
Kids, on the other hand, will learn important messages, like that it's okay to steal if you really need the money, or that it's fine to lead the cops on a dangerous high-speed chase if you have a really noble reason to do so.
At my advance screening of Kid, the same parents who called the FCC to complain about the Super Bowl halftime show applauded, right along with their stupid little kids, at the end of this crapfest, which was far more reprehensible than seeing a split-second distant shot of a pop star's boob.
Kid is, surprisingly, a remake of a rather racy Danish film called Klatretøsen, which was released in 2002 (lest you think it wasn't another dumb Agent Cody Banks-type knockoff of Spy Kids).

In "Catch That Kid," it's our job to root for a trio of pre-teens in their attempts to rob a bank.
This is all laid out in fairly clumsy fashion at the beginning of "Catch That Kid," a mildly entertaining but fairly forgettable remake of a Danish film.
The ultimate suspense in "Catch That Kid" isn't whether they're going to catch that kid, but what they're going to do if they get her.

 Catch That Kid
We've seen these kids in countless other recent teen flicks; they bicker with each other, using mild expletives so young adult audiences don't feel they're watching a kiddie flick; they look and dress cool; they each have their own skill which will obviously be important later on.
I also appreciated the lone fart gag; all kid movies these days has a fart gag, but at least the circumstances leading to this one don't reek (no pun intended) of simple-minded humor for the bathroom crowd - if you don't believe me, just ask any guy who's ever been kicked in the groin.
Catch That Kid has more heart than the abysmal Agent Cody Banks, but for this “James Bond Jr.” subgenre, Spy Kids still remains the standard by which others are judged.

In the movie Catch That Kid, which opened nationwide on February 6, Kristen Stewart plays a 12-year-old struggling to come up with enough money to pay for her father's surgery after he is injured in a climbing accident.
TFK Kid Reporter Henry Rome recently spoke with Stewart about the movie, her role models and her acting career.

The pre-teen characters in "Catch That Kid" are Maddy (Kristen Stewart), Austin (Corbin Bleu), and Gus (Max Theriot).
The three leads in the film are cute kids who might have solid careers one day.

Catch That Kid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Catch That Kid is a 2004 film directed by Bart Freundlich.
Maddy, with help from her two best friends Austin and Gus, robs the state-of-the-art bank in which her mother works in order to get the money required to save her dying father, suffering the after-effects of a fall during a hiking expedition.
During the heist, the kids overcome high-tech security systems, guard dogs, and a nasty head of security to get to a bank vault suspended 100 feet off the ground.

 Catch That Kid
The kids could rob the state of the art bank – with the faulty security system - get the money for the operation and replace it pretty quick when an inheritance comes through.
The moral issues related to the robbery are eventually addressed, but by that time, you’ve been worn out with the actual robbery and escape (hence, "catch that kid").
The biggest problem with "Catch that Kid" is probably that it’s too cute.

A Movie Parable: Catch That Kid
Catch That Kid is the American remake of a critically acclaimed Danish film called Klatretøsen which played in some US film festivals a couple of years back.
Since both of them have school kid crushes on Maddie, they are more than happy to break the law for her.
Director Bart Freundlich was most probably looking to break into the Spy Kids, Agent Cody Banks genre (kids with high tech equipment) but he really needed to do something more than just casting a bunch of kids and giving them high tech equipment to play with.

 Catch That Kid
While the kids go about the heist, a private party is going on at the same time, with Molly in attendance.
After the theft, there is a semi-exciting chase through the streets, with the kids escaping the cops on go-carts.
As far as heist movies go, Catch That Kid presents a decent caper plot that is as tense as the break-in scene in Mission: Impossible, though not as captivating as the casino robbery in Ocean's 11.

The point of Catch That Kid was probably to make another film in the vein of the Spy Kids or Agent Cody Banks franchises, where kids can accomplish basically anything.
Unlike those films, Catch That Kid takes place with perfectly ordinary kids, so nobody can suspend their disbelief at what happens on screen.

Although it tries to be a cross between Spy Kids and Ocean's Eleven, the highly implausible Catch That Kid, about three kids who rob a high-security bank, lacks any ingenuity or imagination.
Potter; Beals is Maddy's workaholic mother who promises to spend more time with her daughter, while Sam Robards is the free-spirited dad, waiting for his kid to save the day.

"Catch That Kid" / a review and/or comments from Christian Spotlight on the Movies
Catch That Kid is a fun, entertaining little movie with enough action to hold a child’s attention, enough bumbling adults to keep him or her amused and enough real-life situations to make the plot almost believable, at least for its target audience.
A sickening aspect to me is that on the night of the heist Maddy brings her toddler brother along because she has to baby-sit him; which leads to him going through dangerous situations such as guard rottweilers, sliding down a garbage shoot and riding on an escape go-cart while fleeing the police.
On a positive note it teaches kids about loyalty to your friends when Gus and Austin, after learning about how Maddy tricked them, leave but then go back to help her.

There's a ridiculous sequence in which Maddy (Kristen Stewart), the trio's ringleader, receives a tour around the bank from her mother's boss - who helpfully reveals the password that will unlock every door in the building.
It's not enough for Maddy to casually mention that adults treat her like a kid, and that's supposed to justify such an absurd plot twist.
The rest of the film is similarly idiotic, although some of the performances are fairly good (Stewart deserves much better than this, as do Sam Robards and John Carroll Lynch).
