  Catch Phrases
First, consider the phrase "when all is said and done." Once, this phrase was clever and original, but so many millions of writers and speakers have used it so many times over so many years that the phrase has become automatic and nearly meaningless.
This type of worn-out phrase is called a catch phrase, and you should always avoid it in your writing, unless you are quoting someone else: you own, original words are always more interesting.
A particularly stale catch phrase -- especially one which was once particularly clever -- is a cliché.

  Catch phrase
A catch phrase is a phrase or expression that is spontaneously popularized after a critical amount of widespread repeated usage in everyday conversation (i.e., it "catches" on).
The term "Manifest Destiny", for example, was a catch phrase of the mid-nineteenth century, coined by journalist John O'Sullivan in an editorial in 1845.
In the professional wrestling arena, catch phrases are often essential to a wrestler’s gimmick.

A catch phrase is recognized as such by its repeated utterance by said person or character on an almost exclusive basis.
After the catch phrase is recognized as such by the public, it is often co-opted into everyday vernacular.
Also called a memetic phrase, a catch phrase often originates in popular culture and the arts, and typically spreads through a variety of mass media (such as literature and publishing, motion pictures, television and radio), as well as word of mouth.

Catch phrase - Information from Reference.com
A catch phrase (or catchphrase) is a word, phrase or expression recognised by its repeated utterance.
Such memetic phrases often originate in popular culture and the arts, and typically spread through a variety of mass media (such as literature and publishing, motion pictures, television and radio), as well as word of mouth.
Some catch phrases become the de facto "trademark" of the person or character with whom they originated, and can be instrumental in the typecasting (beneficially or otherwise) of that actor.
