Selecting the “animation” category under “genres” and then refining this to the subgenre of “computer animation” results in a list of thirty-seven films.
Actually finding the computer animation category on Amazon is more confusing than it should be.
In order to accomplish this, we need both a list of films similar to ours and information on those films’ budgets, box office grosses, and even their popularity on video and DVD.

Financed by Pathé and DreamWorks and benefiting from their worldwide distribution networks, the film is in a totally different category from other European films, if in no other terms than its budget, considerably higher than any other animated film in Europe.
Yet a number of European animated features, such as Kirikou and the Sorceress, Chicken Run, Belleville Rendez-Vous, Lucky and Zorba, Raining Cats and Frogs, Black Mor’s Treasure, are, whatever their flaws, proof of a new creative energy.
The film is all the more problematic as an example since Aardman’s production of further feature films seems, for the moment, to be somewhat delayed.

The short film category was split into two to distingish between short animated films and short live action films, so they contended that since more and more animated films were being released, that it was not fair for animated films to compete on the same level as live action feature length films.
For many years, especially since the resurgence of feature length animation not only by Disney, but also by companies like Fox and Dreamworks, many industry people had lobbied the Academy for a single Oscar category for feature length animated films.
