Speech Versus Writing in Derrida and Bhartrhari - Questia Online Library
But whereas for Murti the category mistake was in taking the outer sound instead of the inner word to be the essence of language, Derrida makes the utterly surprising move of seeming to go in the opposite direction-of identifying the essence of language with writing.
While Murti was challenging naturalistic schools of philosophy such as the Buddhists, Derrida confronts both the logocentric position (which Murti represents), as well as the Buddhists.
For when Derrida describes language as "writing" he not only means that writing is prior to the spoken reflection of the inner logos, but also that language is not merely a sort of external speaking or writing as the Buddhists suggest.

Lingayats are considered as part of the "most backward" under category I and "more backward" under category II, along with Sudras, SC converts to Christianity, Buddhists and Muslims under category II.
All Lingayat subcastes believe (a) that they are Lingayats; (b) they employ the ritual services of Jangam priests; (c) they observe no commensal restrictions and interdine except with Navaliga (Hadapad), Madiwal and Kimbhar; (d) they attend the marriage ceremonies held in their subcaste and help each other; and (e) owe their allegiance to Basavanna (:20).
The Lingayats and Vokkaligas vehemently resented their exclusion from the backward classes list, claiming that they were still unable to compete on equal terms with the upper castes, particularly the entrenched Brahmin positions in education and employment.

The third category, the Abhidhamma Pitaka, is a collection of texts in which the underlying doctrinal principles presented in the Sutta Pitaka are reworked and reorganized into a systematic framework that can be applied to an investigation into the nature of mind and matter.
The second category is the Sutta Pitaka (literally "basket of threads", Sanskrit: Sutra Pitaka) consists primarily of accounts of the Buddha's life and teachings.
The first category, the Vinaya Pitaka, was the code of ethics to be obeyed by the early sangha, monks and nuns.

Jain Philosophy [Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy]
Furthermore, like the Hindus and Buddhists, Jains believe that the only reason that personal advantage accrues to moral behavior is that the very structure of the universe, in the form of the law of karma, makes it so.
Like Buddhists and Hindus, Jains believe that good karma leads to better circumstances in the next life, and bad karma to worse.
Later Jain thinkers would add inference as a separate category, along with memory and tarka, the faculty by which we recognize logical relations.

Marburg Journal of Religion (September 2004) New Religion Adherents: An Overview of Anglophone Census and Survey Data
An important factor influencing the outcome of the religion aspect of the census was that someone decided it would be a fine bit of humor to encourage people to write “Jedi Knight” in the religion category.
Participants in these groups were not distinguished from the other Buddhists constituting the 41,469 Buddhists reported in the 2001 census.
Unfortunately, an Australian census table correlating religious membership with ethnicity is unavailable without paying a fee, so I was unable to obtain the same kind of figures for Western participation in Asian Religions as I did for New Zealand.

In the 14th century, a millennial tradition of Buddhism was discontinued after centuries of conscious marginalisation of Buddhists by Caivas.
This date can be identified in the category of "century", but not of "decade" and "year".
A time-frame of three centuries is too wide for dating a coin, especially in this case where the upper limit falls in the 4th century AD and therefore does not contradict the author's lower limit for the arrival of Buddhism.

 2. Hindus as "Indian Pagans"
Seeing that the Brahmins had fire-ceremonies just like the Mazdeans, the Muslims occasionally included the Indian Pagans in the category âtish-parast as well, again without bothering about distinctions between different sects.
The term Hindu was used for all Indians who were unbelievers or idol-worshippers, including Buddhists, Jains, “animists” and later the Sikhs, but in contradistinction to Indian Christians ( ahl-i Nasâra or Isâî), Jews ( ahl-î-Yahûd or banû Isrâîl), Mazdeans ( ahl-i Majûs or âtish-parast) and of course Muslims themselves.
When Buddhism was implanted in Central Asia, and Buddhist temples were built for worship of Buddha-statues, the Mazdeans described the enthusiasts of this Indian religion as but-parast, “Buddha-worshippers”, as opposed to the Mazdean âtish-parast or “fire-worshippers”.

 Encyclopedia: Buddhist texts
Buddhists place varying value on them: attitudes range from worship of the text itself, to dismissal of some texts as falsification of the ineffable truth.
The latter are the various commentaries on canonical texts and other treatises on the Dharma, as well as collections of quotations, histories, grammars, etc. However, it should be borne in mind that many divisions are arbitrary, and some texts fall between categories, or can be associated with more than one category.
Although canonical, and regarded as the word of the Buddha, modern scholarship has shown that it developed much later, and most of the literature is the product of the two centuries after Ashoka (1st Century CE).

Buddhism’s lack of interest in social reform was implicitly admitted by Dr. Ambedkar himself, when as Law Minister he defended the inclusion of Buddhists in the category of citizens to whom the Hindu Code Bill would apply.
Buddhism is Hindu in its origin and development, in its art and architecture, iconography, language, beliefs, psychology, names, nomenclature, religious vows and spiritual discipline.
Buddhism is quite close to the Samkhya-Yoga viewpoint: to Samkhya for its philosophical framework, to Yoga for its methods of meditation.

 Wrathful Deities
There is a category of wrathful deities who are believed to help in the removal of obstructions or obstacles.
Vajrabhairava seems to have derived from Indian god Shiva in his fierce form of Bhairava (Terrifier.) To Buddhists, this dark bull-headed figure has become Yamantaka, Dorje Jigche [Jigji] the Death-Slayer, who is a fierce form of the gentle Mañjusri, one of the Buddha's disciples.
In this context, the usually 4-faced, 4-armed deity that in Indian mythology traverses space seated with Lakshmi his consort on Garuda, is here mounted on a white horse, brandishing a sword.

 The Doctrine of Being, Hegel
This identity of being and thought is not however to be taken in a concrete sense, as if we could say that a stone, so far as it has being, is the same as a thinking man. A concrete thing is always very different from the abstract category as such.
The same stricture is applicable to those who define God to be mere Being; a definition not a whit better than that of the Buddhists, who make God to be Nought, and who from that principle draw the further conclusion that self-annihilation is the means by which man becomes God.
Being is the notion implicit only: its special forms have the predicate ‘is’; when they are distinguished they are each of them an ‘other’: and the shape which dialectic takes in them, i.e.

The man said that the Gospels depict Jesus at odds with the Jewish leaders of his day and at odds with the Romans by leading a movement that focused on himself as King (because if Jesus is King, Caesar is not).

Religion can be seen as both giving something to society in personal deeds, and taking something spiritually back for yourself, as many people have discovered.

Second Unitarian Church: Sermon Archive - January 30, 2005 - Theodore Parker: American Heretic
Parker claimed that most of what we understand to be Christianity, salvation by faith, original sin, the trinity, baptism, the divine nature of Christ, and so forth fall squarely in the Transient category of Christianity.
Indeed it may very well be that without Parker the Unitarians might have adopted a form of subliminal or unacknowledged creedalism; in which case there would be no room for Buddhists, Pagans, or anyone who deviated from their peculiar flavor of Christianity.
Parker’s view, but for him it was “intuition.” By intuition he meant something like religious experience, but really it is a sense of the divine that is inherent in all thinking creatures.

Abhidhamma - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Abhidharma (Sanskrit; (Pāli Abhidhamma) is a category of Buddhist scriptures that attempts to use Buddhist teachings to create a systematic, abstract description of all worldly phenomena.
Traditionally, Buddhists have been of the belief that the Abhidharma was not a later addition to the tradition, but rather represented the first, original teachings of the Buddha.
Numerous apparently independent Abhidharma traditions arose in India, roughly during the period from the 2nd or 3rd Century BCE to the 5th Century CE.
