Amazon.com: The Great War for Civilisation : The Conquest of the Middle East: Books: Robert Fisk
Fisk interweaves this history with his own vividly rendered experiences in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Algeria, Israel, Palestine and Lebanon–on the front lines; behind the scenes; in the streets of cities and villages; and inside military headquarters, the hideouts of guerrillas, the homes of ordinary citizens.
Fisk, while a Journalist, is also a historian in the first category.
Fisk is among the natural elite of reporters, those who too often have been killed in the course of trying to find the best point of vantage from which to relay the most meaningful, urgent features of history as it unfolds.
