Please remind me why making Category:New York a disambiguation category/page would be a bad idea...
(Pity there isn't the option to prevent media being categorized under a disambiguation category.) First, though, I'll ask Dbenbenn to indicate whether or not he'd be happy with Category:New York (state) and Category:New York (city).
If there is a consensus to disambiguate, then I'd prefer Category:New York (state) and Category:New York (city) with a message at Category:New York saying that the disambiguated categories should be used instead.

Patent 5371807: Method and apparatus for text classification
When the category disambiguation module 38 is invoked, all the rules that can apply to the given input text are fired and all the category preferences are recorded by the category disambiguation module 38.
If, however, an application developer decides to utilize the category disambiguation module and the rule-base, the task is simple and straightforward because most of the processing and comparison of the input text is performed upstream in the architecture thereby greatly reducing the importance of the rule-base in the text classification process.
While eliminating the category disambiguation module and the rule base may result in some loss of accuracy, the trade-off would be that development of an application is greatly simplified.

After his death, he lived on as a legendary figure: the characters of Etzel in the Nibelungenlied and Atli in the Volsunga saga were both loosely based on his life.
However, he died in the early months of 453; the conventional account, from Priscus, says that on the night after a feast celebrating his latest marriage (to a Goth named Ildico), he suffered a severe nosebleed and choked to death.

As this is a category about buildings, and buildings are generally listed by country, then I would suggest the UK is the appropriate country (there being no country called Great Britain) regardless of the name of one of the parent cats.

Rename as proposed Then create Category:Roman Catholic cathedrals in the United Kingdom and put this and the Irish category (or a Northern Ireland subcategory of it) in this one.

The page at Gallagher (disambiguation) shouldn't exist at all, because it is simply a search index, and certainly shouldn't be in place of the article at Gallagher.
The standarad for a disambiguation page is for a redirect to go to the most outstanding article automatically with a link to a disambig.

Wikipedia:Stub - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stub templates are composed by two distinct parts: a short message stating that said article is a stub of a particular type and encouraging editors to expand it and a category link, which places the article on a stub category.
With stub categories, if an editor is, for example, a biologist, he or she can look for stubs with the tag {{ biology-stub }} on said category and easily find stubs to which they can add, subtract or modify.
C: Insert the name of an appropriate higher level category, for this example it would be road transport stubs.
