A Glossary of terms pertinent to the psychological theory and other theoretical aspects of Jim Hagart's Subliminal World.
A category that once may have simply contained information about the functions of baked beans becomes expanded to o include information about (associations with) sexy actors and actresses, stirring music, laughable actions, and so on.
Translation of tobacco company ads and relevant commentary into languages other than English will be particularly welcomed.
Our recollections of baked beans are thus influenced by what might reasonably be claimed to be irrelevant factors.

 Chicago Reader Movie Review
(Though the dialogue of Breaking the Waves is in English--as it was in The Element of Crime--the shooting was done in Denmark and Scotland.
Part of me would like to say that the achievement of Breaking the Waves is that for long stretches it doesn't seem emotionally hollow--that it's a very clever con game, a faux-naif masterpiece (unless one rejects the category as a contradiction in terms).
Five years ago Zentropa struck me as a technical tour de force that was emotionally hollow--unlike Medea, which does powerful things with its actors and landscapes (even if it plays havoc with Dreyer's script and might just as well have gone back to Euripides).

 Miles Malleson - www.ezboard.com
To me, Miles Malleson (pictured above) was one of those actors who, seemed, whatever you saw them in, to be positively ancient - I would include Moore Marriott, A E Matthews, Felix Aylmer and Kynaston Reeves in this category.
During her appearance on the "Parkinson" television chat show last Saturday, Dame Judi told - with much humour - of the amorous adventures of the English character actor Miles Malleson towards her and Maggie Smith backstage during that 1958 Old Vic production.
Miles Malleson was born in 1888 so he would have been 70 when he was chasing these two young ladies around.

The Movie List Book: A Reference Guide to Film Themes, Settings, and Series by Richard B Armstrong, Search Cheap Books, Discount Books, ISBN 0899502407
Although the authors understandably exclude large subjects (like World War II) and deal only with English-language sound films and some TV movies, the volume is extraordinarily comprehensive and accurate (although this reviewer would lobby to include samurai, bars, actors/backstage life, chases, and more diseases).
Each one falls into two parts, the first of which is a narrative description of the category and the second is a chronological list of representative films.
The 450-plus entries in The Movie List Book include characters (mostly fictional, like King Arthur or Philip Marlowe), subjects (lynching), locales (subways), themes (time travel), occupations (taxi drivers), things (bicycles), as well as series films (Dirty Harry; "Carry On").

UH Press Journals: Oceanic Linguistics, vol. 31, no. 2 (1992)
This typology provides two kinds of languages: those like Tagalog, that are supposed to have topics and actors but no subjects, and those like English, where the topic and actor properties are supposed to inhere a single category, the subject.
Language preservation is viewed as one aspect of the preservation of linguistic diversity, which in turn constitutes the basis for language regeneration and ultimate well-being.
Although New Caledonian languages are well-known for their phonological innovations, they also have conservative aspects that bear on the organization of the Proto-Oceanic consonant system: the nature of the *t/*d contrast, *q as a uvular stop, and the organization of the obstruents into three series: oral, prenasalized, and nasal.

Most of these stars now rarely star in or direct movies in Hong Kong; in fact, some of them have even gone so far as to indicate that they will never work in their native country again.

Best Actor & Best Supporting Actor - JAMAICAOBSERVER.COM
A glance at the past winners going back to Jason Robards back-to-back triumphs in 1976-77 (the only actor with back-to back wins in the category) shows a notable preponderance of 40-plus and even 50-plus actors.
As the inscrutable samurai warrior leader in Tom Cruise's otherwise self-absorbed The Last Samurai, Ken Watanabe is, to my mind, the best performer of the lot, but the statistics simply don't favour a non-American actor in a largely non-English-speaking role.
Consistently compelling performances (he was easily the best player in Pearl Harbour and wowed TV audiences in the cable mini-series, Nuremberg) are sadly countered by a nasty divorce from actress wife Kim Basinger, complete with allegations of domestic violence.
