Some, such as sodium chloride are ionic, while others such as uranium hexafluoride have considerable covalent character to their bonding.

 Halide [Definition]
Metal halides  ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Metal_halides) are used in high-intensity discharge lamps High-intensity discharge (HID) lamps include the groups of electrical lights commonly known as mercury vapor, metal halide, high-pressure sodium, and xenon short-arc lamps.
Alkyl halides In chemistry, an alkyl halide is an organic molecule of the form R-X, where X is a halide and R contains a carbon atom bonded to other functional groups or hydrogens.
A halide is a binary compound, of which one part is a halogen atom and the other part is an element or radical that is less electronegative Electronegativity is a measure of the attraction that an atom has for the bonding pair of electrons in a covalent bond.

 Let there be Light
This latter category of HID may not seem familiar to some but includes Metal Halides as well as Mercury and Sodium Vapor based lighting systems
One of the oldest and simplest forms of lighting used in the aquarium trade is incandescent lighting and while it has been superseded over the last decade or two by florescence lighting as the most popular for aquariums it is still found in many inexpensive systems or specialty applications.
There are some definite down sides to using florescent lighting systems and most of these are related to the more complex electrical requirements needed to operate them, in particularly the need for electrical "Ballasts".

 EPA/OPPT/Pollution Prevention (P2) Framework
This category of chemicals includes inorganic salts, such as sodium chloride (NaCl) or potassium permanganate (KMnO4).
Organic chemical classes that are known to rapidly hydrolyze include: Acid Halides; Isocyanates; Sulfonyl Chlorides; Siloxanes; alpha-Chloro ethers.
The likely result is that the persistence of the chemical will not be accurately predicted because the importance of hydrolysis will not be taken into account.

 Anhydrides & Chemicals, Inc. v. The U.S.
The heading for class 2917 includes acyclic polycarboxylic acids and their anhydrides, halides, and certain other chemicals, while the subheading for 2917.19.27 is specific as to the sources of certain of these acids.
Although not a model of clarity, the overall structure of the HTSUS classification suggests that succinic acid of defined chemical source, and derivatives of this succinic acid, are the focus of the 2917.19.27 classification, and that succinic anhydride that is not derived from this succinic acid is not included in this category.
For example, succinic anhydride may be made by dehydration of succinic acid, which in turn may be made from cyclohexane, from maleic or fumaric acid, from maleic anhydride, or from sugar.
