MSN Encarta - Search View - American Literature: Prose
Writings in the first category endeavored to show that the roles and behaviors believed to be acceptable and appropriate for women had also entrapped them and limited their opportunities.
The first dime novels were set during key events of early American history such as the Revolutionary War, but plots soon incorporated frontier lore, conflicts between cowboys and Indians, and the taming of the West for white settlement.
Melville, who was born in New York City, worked on a number of ships after his father's financial ruin and death and based several novels on his voyages.

 Camber of Culdi
Since the Deryni books fall into the category of those with vast histories, many unforgettable characters, and quantities of place names, I suggest, for both the sake of the reader’s memory, and the reader’s enjoyment, that the dangerous, tender, powerful Camber of Culdi is the novel to start with.
The Deryni are much feared because of their powers, and so must employ a great deal of intrigue in order to bring about good in the world.
Members of these races can be good or evil, but I find myself, as intended, I’m sure, generally rooting for the Deryni, who possess magic powers similar to ESP. The Derni have portals to be created, rituals to be completed, and most of all, healing, truth reading, and memory-tampering abilities to be used.

 Glossary of Literary Terms
By studying more closely, most novels and short stories are placed into the categories of first-person and third-person narratives, which are based on who is telling the story and from what perspective.
Being aware of unreliable narrators are essential, especially when you have to describe the characters and their actions to others, since the narrator, unreliable as they are, abandons you without the important guidance to make trustworthy judgments.
These short poems formulated from the light verse species, which concentrated on the tone of voice and the attitude of the lyric or narrative speaker toward the subject.

BL novels are immensely popular - the number of novels published each month outnumbers manga tankoubon by about 2 to 1.
While early fans of BL were probably fans of doujinshi, most Japanese fans on the net these days appear to be fans of commercial BL work - there are over a hundred such works published every month, more than two-thirds of them novels and the rest manga.

Romance novel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Romance novels are divided into two sub-sets, category romances (also called series romances) and single title romances.
Romance novels can also trace their roots back to gothic novels, if not to the idea of the "roman" itself through the romance (genre), a heroic prose and narrative form of medieval/Renaissance Europe.
Romance novels are most popular in the United States and Canada, where it is the best-selling genre.

Graphic Novel Encyclopedia Article, History, Biography - Local Color Art
Long-form comic books existed long before the term's popularization and subsequent use as a marketing category: for example, the book-length (and hardcovered) Franco-Belgian comics featuring Tintin, Asterix and Spirou are graphic novels.
Campbell defines the major goal of the movement as being "to take the form of the comic book, which has become an embarrassment, and raise it to a more ambitious and meaningful level." Campbell sees the movement as drawing on many antecedents, notably woodcut novels, eg.
Members of the movement are known as Graphic Novelists, and their work as Graphic Novels.
