 The Pianist
It, too, assigns Wladyslaw to a category other than that of a conventional hero.
The film is based on the war-time experiences of a Polish Jew, Wladyslaw Szpilman, who narrowly escaped death during the Holocaust and became, after the war, one of the world’s most distinguished pianists.
Wladyslaw's luck reminds us of the unlucky many, including his parents, sisters and brother; and luck can turn, cannot be counted on, so it exacerbates Wladyslaw's anxiety rather than relieves it, except when, of course, it kicks in.
