HIF and MAVIN Foundation urge the UC Regents to reject Connerly’s proposal for a multiracial/multiethnic category and to adopt data collection, tabulation and reporting methods that are compliant with mark one or more federal guidelines.
Connerly’s proposal for a multiracial/multiethnic category only hampers efforts to ensure that these policies are effectively instituted by the DOE and UC.
MAVIN Foundation and Hapa Issues Forum (HIF) expressed their concern that Connerly’s proposal would significantly reduce the accuracy of data collection on UC applicants and students and undermine federal reporting requirements for a check one or more option on racial data.

Mixed Media Watch - tracking media representations of mixed people » Blog Archive » WARD WATCH: $250,000 for Ward, no strings attached
When Ward Connerly took the podium in the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater last night, he started out by describing his long days battling the numerous, and often vehement, proponents of affirmative action who regularly attacked him during his 12-year tenure – he used the word “sentence” – on the California Board of Regents.
Connerly tried unsuccessfully to establish a multiracial category for U.C. students.
He had success with Proposition 209 (1996), weaning California women and “minorities” off this whining, circular, self-immolating dependency on preferences.
