 Glossary
Much of statistics is concerned with estimating numerical properties (parameters) of an entire population from a random sample of units from the population.
The chi-square statistic is used to measure the agreement between categorical data and a multinomial model that predicts the relative frequency of outcomes in each possible category.
Statistical hypothesis testing is formalized as making a decision between rejecting or not rejecting a null hypothesis, on the basis of a set of observations.

 Statistical Methods for Rater Agreement
Kappa statistics generally do not meet the criteria outlined above: they make implicit theoretical assumptions which are arbitrary and untested, they do not separate the different components of disagreement, and they do not express agreement in terms that are especially useful.
Because disagreement on trait definition and disagreement on rating category widths are distinct components of disagreement, with different practical implications, a statistical approach to the data should ideally quantify each separately.
There is little consensus about what statistical methods are best to analyze rater agreement (we will use the generic words "raters" and "ratings" here to include observers, judges, diagnostic tests, etc. and their ratings/results.) To the non-statistician, the number of alternatives and lack of consistency in the literature is no doubt cause for concern.

This rockfish market category sampling occurs in various ports and for distinct harvest gear-types producing proportions for individual species by port (or port group), gear (or gear group), and month (or quarter).
The fact that there are unsampled strata results in the situation that each PacFIN report potentially includes statistics for both individual species as well as market categories.
If all possible combinations of market category, gear-type, port, month, and area (where applicable) were actually sampled, then the resulting PacFIN reports would contain catch for only individual scientifically defined species.

Solid statistics on Neo-Paganism on a worldwide scale are essentially non-existent, but it is a rapidly growing religion/religious category.
While there is certainly overlap between this category and non-African primal-indigenous religious adherents, there are reasons for separating the two, best illustrated by focusing specifically on Yoruba, which is probably the largest African traditional religious/tribal complex.
The "Secular/Nonreligious/etc." category is probably the most speculative estimate in this list, as this segment of society is difficult to count.
