 Time Allocation Policy: Keck Telescopes
Their access to the Keck Telescopes will be through collaborations with proposers in categories A and B. Graduate students are not eligible to apply for Keck observing time.
Proposals from individuals in this category will be judged in competition with those coming under category A above.
All ladder rank faculty and ladder rank emeritus in residence of the University of California are entitled to apply on a competitive basis for UC observing time at the Keck Observatory.

So You Bought a Small Telescope
Newtonian reflector telescopes (with a mirror at the back of the tube and the eyepiece holder near the front) between 3 inches and 4.5 inches will probably fall into the small telescope category as well.
Because images in small telescopes are dim at high power, you will have to use lower powers than you would in a larger telescope.
It is true that small telescopes are not the easiest (or even the most cost-effective, when purchased new) way to view the cosmos.

From a homotopy theorist's point of view, one interesting example of such non-abelian derived functors is the E^2-term of the mod p unstable Adams spectral sequence of Bousfield and Kan. They identify this E^2-term as a sort of Ext in the category CA of unstable coalgebras over the mod p Steenrod algebra.
When the homotopy groups of the $S$-algebra in question form a sufficiently nice ring, it is possible to see the deviation of the category of modules over an $S$-algebra from the corresponding algebraic module category.
The main statement of the paper is that if F and H are connected, then the homotopy fiber of the suspenson of q is built from the smash of F and H using homotopy push-outs, wedges and telescopes.

Kendrick Astro Instruments - Swarovski Spotting Scopes
The ATS/STS 80 (HD) observation telescopes set the highest standards among telescopes in this category.
Even with the easy-to-handle fully rubberized armouring, the ATA/STS 80 (HD) are by far the lightest of the larger observation telescopes.
Thanks to a recalculated optical system, they offer a precise observation of detail, optimum edge-to-edge images and almost 100 per cent colour fidelity with an extremely wide field of view, thereby achieving a revolutionary image quality.

The current favorite approach to doing this is with infrared interferometry: interfering the light from two (or more) separated telescopes with a pi/2 phase shift, nulling out the starlight and allowing detection of the reflected light from the planet.

Porrima (Gamma Virginis) falls in the latter category.
It is now closing, and in 2007 will become impossible to see as a double in smaller telescopes.
Gamma Virginis is on the Astronomical League’s 100 doubles list, so unless the AL makes a change to the list, some people will be stuck at 99 doubles for awhile!

Of the 14 periodic comets predicted to return to the inner solar system in 2003, only a handful actually came within visual range of amateur telescopes.

I also made sure that all the objects in each category were as bright as the dimmest object Messier included for that type (see Table 1).
The nebulae are great photographic objects; however, they are difficult to see with amateur telescopes.
Messier's list includes two planetaries named after dumbbells, the Dumbbell (M27) in Vulpecula and the Little Dumbbell (M76) in Perseus, while mine has two planetaries named after planets, the Saturn Nebula in Aquarius (M193, NGC7009) and the Ghost of Jupiter in Hydra (M138, NGC 3242).

Hubble sequence - Art History Online Reference and Guide
Irregular galaxies (Irr) are divided into Irr-I, which show spiral structure but are deformed in some way, and Irr-II for any other galaxy that does not fit into another category.
Hubble based his classification on photographs of the galaxies through the telescopes of the time.
Elliptical galaxies are generally fairly low in gas and dust, and are composed mostly of older stars.

These days, a category of telescope that was once considered the poor relation of the sexy, spacy telescopes is proving that the obituaries for Earth-based astronomy were, well, somewhat premature.
Here on Earth, bigger telescopes are being built at better sites.

For awhile, beginning 17 July, 2002 KK8 was in the Urgent category on the Spaceguard Priority List for experienced observers with telescopes able to reach magnitude 20.5, trying to keep this object from becoming "lost" after it disappears from view in late August.
Klet Observatory has posted a 25 August report and pictures on how Europe's historical flood has affected their operations and staff in Ceske Budejovice, although not the observatory itself (on Klet mountain).

The E1 differential graded k-algebra associated to a commuta* *tive Hk-algebra A is equivalent in the homotopy category of A1 differential graded * *k- algebras to the associative differential graded k-algebra associated to A by re* *garding A as a (noncommutative) Hk-algebra.
We can form the "telescopes" in A required for [1, 2.4], by modeling a sequence in A by a sequence of cofibrant G-algebras and cofibrations in G and forming the colimit.
E1 Hk-Algebras As mentioned in the introduction, the functor that underlies the equivalence of the Main Theorem is the composition of a cellular chain functor with an ap- propriate CW approximation functor.

Lunar Criteria Three criteria were identified by which to prioritize the Category A science themes according to their importance to lunar science.
Moon-Mars Science: Characterizing the structure and composition of lunar and martian regoliths is critical to our understanding of the development of the outer skin of planets; this fragmental outer skin includes much of the material seen in multispectral observations from telescopes and from missions.
Moon-Mars Science: Although the Moon and Mars formed and evolved in different ways, deciphering the thermal and magmatic evolution of each is fundamental to understanding the dynamics of their interiors and the expression of mantle processes on their surfaces (Shearer and Papike, 1999).
