 Science Day 2005
Determining the origin of CA and TH fractionation is not only important for understanding major elements trends of subduction zone magmas, but high magmatic water contents result in very explosive eruptions.
Our new water measurements in Arenal magmas demonstrate that water is higher than expected (up to 4 wt%).
This has led to the use of Ba/La as a water proxy in Costa Rica, where until now water had not been measured.

Canadian Hurricane Centre: Why did a category-two Hurricane hit Nova Scotia?
Hurricane Juan made landfall on September 29th, 2003 as a marginal category two hurricane with maximum sustained wind speeds of 85 knots (158 km/h).
Furthermore, the hurricane spent less time over the cooler waters because it was moving so rapidly, and hence there was less time for the storm to weaken.
Hurricane Juan actually did not weaken much at all when it headed across the cooler shelf waters south of Nova Scotia.

 Amphibious Living
In the first category these criteria related to the innovative character of settlements in marshy country, the reinforcement of the quality of the landscape, the way in which water would be experienced and the relationship with water management.
The subject of the third category was living and working with water.
In the second category ('town planning and architecture') the emphasis was on the design of an amphibious residential area, to include a floating house which had also to be capable of standing on dry land, or a land-based house also capable of floating.

Under Phase I of the storm water regulations, category 11 facilities [40 CFR 122.26(b)(14)(xi)] did not have to obtain NPDES storm water permit coverage if they did not have exposure of their industrial activity to storm water.
Effective September 27, 2000, the TCEQ assumed the non-construction portion of the storm water general permitting and administratively extended the Multi-Sector General Permit per the permits instructions until the permit is issued and applicants follow the instructions in that permit to obtain TPDES permit coverage.

Overclocker Cafe - Thermaltake Rocket Fanless Water Cooling Kit Review
These systems don't provide the brute force cooling power of the first category we described but rest their laurels on the efficiency of water coupled with low speed fans at low decibel levels to produce a near silent cooling option.
Water cooling systems are a fantastic cooling solution but all too often H2O kits get lumped into one big category.
Super cooling speaks for itself, water pumps capable of servicing a small pond, large radiators and fans that move serious air with minimal thought or allowance for sound levels or sound suppression.

Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Severity categories are scaled somewhat lower than the Saffir-Simpson Scale, with a severity category 2 tropical cyclone being roughly equivalent to a Saffir-Simpson category 1 hurricane.
It does not take into account rainfall or location, which means a Category 3 hurricane that hits a major city will likely do far more damage than a Category 5 hurricane that hits a rural area.
For other meanings of Category 4, see Category 4 (disambiguation).

Volcanic Ash -- Effects on Waste Water and Mitigation Strategies
Waste water systems (sewage and storm water) are vulnerable to damage from volcanic ash because the tiny rock fragments can block pipes and canals, increase wear on pumps and other machinery, and interfere with water-treatment processes.
Keeping as much ash as possible from entering a community's waste water system is a top priority for reducing the potential effects of ash fall—coordination of community-wide clean-up efforts is critical after ash stops falling but also when it is raining during an ash fall.
In one community with only 5 percent combined sewage and storm water lines during ash fall of 2-4 cm (1-2 in), equipment failures occurred within 3 days, resulting in the release of raw sewage into a river for several days (see press release).

Light water reactors are a category of nuclear power reactor in which water is used as both a coolant and a moderator.
The fuel in the pressurized water reactor consists of cylindrical pellets of slightly enriched uranium dioxide with a diameter of 0.325 in by 0.39 in.
The water leaves the reactor to pass through steam generators where a secondary coolant is allowed to boil and produce steam to drive the turbine.

 Everglades: Friends of the Everglades
This mushy mix of saw grass and water was known as the Everglades (the Seminoles called it Pa-hay-okee, or "grassy water"), and while it may have been a paradise for poisonous snakes and ugly alligators and vicious mosquitoes, it was not at all hospitable to human beings.
Water may run downhill, but in the flatlands of the Everglades, which rarely declines more than an inch or two per mile, it runs exceedingly slowly.
That is when politicians demanded new plumbing to assure water control as well as water supply for the entire region, which led to the Rube Goldberg-style Central and South Florida Flood Control Project that Strowd used to operate.
