 Kettle Ecosystem Description
The Relict Drainageway category describes long linear features that were occupied by large volumes of meltwater at the end of Wisconsin time, but now contain no channelized flow.
In this project, Relict Lakebed Ecosystem wetlands describe the extensive flat pro-glacial lakes or the vast flats created when Cook Inlet was dammed by ice (Karlstrom, 1964).
Kettle Ecosystems are connected to each other by streams, adjacent kettles, or by peatlands which have formed in the Relict Glacial Drainageway Ecosystem wetlands that sometimes occur between larger kettles.

 Virginia Marine Resources Commission
However, preservation of adjacent non-tidal wetlands or upland buffers may be considered in the adjacent land use category of the functional value methodology for credit determination in a proposed bank if the sponsor can show demonstatable threat to those adjacent areas.
It was developed jointly by the Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC) and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) with the assistance of a Mitigation Banking Advisory Committee (MBAC) representing local, state and federal interests involved in tidal wetlands management and mitigation issues, as well as private sector developers, consultants and environmental groups.
Consolidation of compensatory mitigation within a mitigation bank increases the efficiency of limited agency resources in the review and compliance monitoring of mitigation projects, and thus improves the reliability of efforts to restore, create or enhance wetlands for mitigation purposes.

When the plant was first built in 1987, the State of New Jersey wanted to designate the Wallkill River as a Category 1 river but backed away under political pressure and instead added vague language about anti-degradation policies.

One Third of World's Population Will Experience Severe Water Scarcity By 2025, Says New Study
Already the women and children of these countries walk great distances to retrieve water for cooking, drinking, and other household needs, farmers are losing their land as water sources decline, and wildlife is disappearing as wetlands dry up.
Category 2: These countries face "economic water scarcity." They must more than double their efforts to extract water to meet 2025 water needs, but they will not have the financial resources available to develop these water supplies.
Category 3: These countries have to increase water development between 25 and 100 percent to meet 2025 needs, but have more financial resources to do so.

GREAT LAKES: Their health depends on consistent monitoring
The states have to use common standards to measure everything from how often beaches are closed for swimmers to how well wetlands are holding up throughout the Great Lakes basin.
The Environmental Integrity Project last week rattled off category after category on which water quality statistics are missing, erratic or collected so differently by each state that some of the lakes appear to have split personalities.
Yet considering how many people get their drinking water from the Great Lakes, spend the summer swimming in them and like their perch and whitefish, too, it's negligence not to monitor them carefully and consistently.

This category includes upland forests and forest land on seasonally or permanently wet or inundated areas often called "forested wetlands" in other classification schemes.
For land on which there is forest rotation involving clear cutting and block planting, the clear-cut or plantation areas are not included in this subcategory until planted trees reach a growth stage to meet the height and crown density criteria.
This category includes non-forested and nonagricultural land that has less than 10 percent vegetation cover, including natural areas (such as sand dunes, river bars and banks, exposed bedrock) and managed areas (such as active or abandoned mines, quarries, and spoil piles).
