 AVERSIONLINE.COM - MP3 BLOG » Catharsis "s/t" CD
I recently got an email asking me if I had ever posted about Catharsis, because I had mentioned planning to at some point, so here it is. Catharsis was from North Carolina and is almost synonymously linked to the activities of their infamous label (or "ex-workers' collective", rather), CrimethInc.
While Catharsis was always ten times more idealistic and "revolutionary" in thought than any other band having been associated with the "holy terror" style, their debut full-length - which contained their demo and debut 7" recordings from 1994/1995 - stands as my favorite release from their back catalog.
Although it might have a little something to do with the fact that Dingledine was constantly sucking face (almost literally) with his girlfriend at the show, and during their set made a bunch of hippie-ish remarks about wanting to make love to everyone in the room, which I found to be quite silly.

 NIGHTWISH Gig Report
In my opinion, Catharsis were the best pick for the opener, but on that day their show was a bit weaker than usual.
Some people claim that the band left the stage early because some idiot threw a beer glass at Tarja, others quote Tuomas as saying that Tarja had caught a cold, but I think that she is just not trained enough to sing longer than one hour.
I guess this is mainly thanks to the band (I would like to single out the drummer who impressed me the most of all instrumentalists), the lovely lady behind the mic, and to their great music which has the ability to touch hearts of so many people.

Endpoint - Music Downloads - Online
Bio: Endpoint was the definitive Midwestern hardcore band throughout most of the '90s, leading the charge for progressive, positive, empowering politics with uplifting, cathartic anthem after anthem championing the oppressed and the free-thinking rights of the individual.
The band was formed in the late '80s by Louisville natives Rob Pennington, whose soulful crooning and high pitched wails defined the band's sound, and guitarist Duncan Barlow after the dissolution of their Deathwatch project.
The band then signed a deal with a then-fledgling Doghouse Records that would eventually help Endpoint become a centerpiece of the international hardcore scene, and the label grow into the sizeable independent entity it is today.

Andrew Marchesseault: Masterpieces in the past...
After straddling two eras, the Band shifted its weight to the foot firmly placed in the present, as Robbie Robertson's lyrics focused entirely on personal anxieties, with Confederate soldiers and rocking chairs lost to the dusts of time.
The group, even with its proudly exposed roots to Americana and the modesty of rural music, eventually gave in to its vices; the suspicions of their third LP were cowed by the temptations of sex, drugs, and modern rock 'n' roll.
In 1970, the Band was still partying with one eye on the clock, another looking over its collective shoulder, and a third eye into the soul of its music.

But occasionally a group of headbangers will get the urge to really stretch out, which is what YOB does on its second album Catharsis.
Rather, YOB 's slow riffs crawl along in a Black Sabbath -minded fashion, leaving no doubt that the band's forceful yet melodic metal is doom all the way.
Of course, one could say that about doom metal in general, and if one has acquired a taste for doom, Catharsis is worth checking out.
