Catherine Carey was the daughter of Sir William Carey, Gentleman of the Privy Chamber and Esquire of the Body to King Henry VIII of England, and his wife Lady Mary Boleyn, who had once been mistress of King Henry VIII.
Although rumour had it that Catherine and her brother Henry Carey, 1st Baron Hunsdon were fathered by Henry VIII, himself this is unknown.
Catherine was a witness to the execution of her royal aunt, Anne Boleyn, in 1536.

Her teenage daughter Catherine (born 1524) was appointed a maid of honor to Anne of Cleves, Henry VIII's fourth wife.

This is a small painting meant to be a study for a larger painting.
Everyone was a good sport and they all painted up a storm - they had some beautiful journal pages to remind them of the day - which I think was a nice day in spite of the rain.
