Thomas Knyvet, 1st Baron Knyvet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Thomas Knyvet (or Knevytt, Knyvett, Knevett, Knevitt), (1558-27 July 1622) was the 2nd son of Sir Henry Knyvet of Charlton, Wiltshire and Anne Pickering, daughter of Sir Christopher Pickering of Killington, Westmoreland, Westmoreland.
Lord Knyvet was also famous for a long running feud with Edward de Vere, the Seventeenth Earl of Oxford, of whom many claim to be the true identity of William Shakespeare.
Knyvet's niece was Anne Vavasour, the mistress of the Earl of Oxford who bore him a child.

Thumbprints of "Ephelia" - Appendix H
As Mulvihill wrote in the TLS (January 2, 2004:15), “the importance of the Villiers case for ‘Ephelia’ cannot be exaggerated, as it suggests that Mary Villiers was the most highly placed, publishing woman writer of her age.
It also places Lady Mary on a long continuum of other English women writers in her own extended family, from the lines of Manners, Knyvet, Wroth, Felton, and Stuart.” To date, critical reception has been supportive.
The Chawton House Library for the Study of Early Women Writers (Hampshire UK) ran an illustrated cover feature on the Villiers case in its Female Spectator (Summer, 2002).
