On August 26, 1963, with the blessing of His Holiness and Beatitude, Ephrem II, Catholicos-Patriarch of all Georgia he was consecrated Bishop of Shemokmedi and appointed Patriarchal Vicar.
His Holiness has received the highest Church awards from Patriarchs of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Orthodox Churches of Antioch, Jerusalem, Alexandria, Russia, Georgia, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Czechoslovakia and almost all other Orthodox Churches.
In 1927 the couple moved to Vladikavkaz, where they purchased a house in which the future Patriarch of Georgia was born (six years later).
