	Catskill High Peaks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The peaks of Ulster County are in the foreground, with Greene County's Devil's Path at the far right.
		The Catskill High Peaks are all those mountains in the Catskill Mountains in New York in the USA above 3,500 ft (1067 m) in elevation whose summits are separated either by one-half mile (805 m) or a vertical drop of at least 200 ft (61 m) between it and the next nearest separate summit.
		Unlike the Adirondack High Peaks, those in the Catskills are more evenly distributed around the eastern half of the range instead of being confined to one small area.

	Catskill High Peaks
		The bedrock in the Catskills is composed of sedimentary rock, primarily shale, sandstone, and conglomerate.
		The glacial till in the high peaks is generally not thick, ranging from 0 to about 3 meters (0 to 10 feet) on the slopes and summits, versus over 30.5 meters (100 feet) in some of the valleys.
		The Catskills is significant in the region for its unfragmented forest.

	The 3500 Club Peaks
		Thomas Cole is the westernmost high peak in the Blackhead Range.
		West Kill was one of the last peaks in the Catskills to receive a trail and there is evidence of a bracket from an old 3500 Club canister on a tree near the summit.
		The Blackhead Range and Kaaterskill High Peak are visible to the northeast, and the Burroughs Range is visible to the southeast.

	Catskill Forest Preserve
		The Catskill Park is a mountainous region of public and private lands in Ulster, Green, Delaware and Sullivan Counties.
		The Catskill Forest Preserve is the state land within the Catskill Park.
		The gray sandstone of the area formed some 360-400 million years ago when the Catskill region was a shallow sea filling up with clay and silt washing off the high mountains to the east.

		The Catskill Mountains rise west of the Hudson River in southeastern New York, roughly 100 miles north-northwest of New York City.
		I bought this guide prior to going up to the Catskills near the area of Tannersville, Hunter Mountain and the Catskill Falls, and the guide was a great help in finding nice trails in the area with great text and indicative sketches of the trails.
		It is among the most spectacular places in the Catskills and for the author to ignore it would be a disservice to anyone interested in the Catskills.
